Australian Open today – Matches today 28.01.
How quickly can ten days go by at the Australian Open 2022? The first Grand Slam tournament of the year has already entered its home stretch. The women will play their final on Saturday, the men on Sunday.
But before that can happen, the two best players have to be found first. Friday concentrates entirely on the two men’s semi-finals, which could (almost) not be more high-ranking.
With these four names, it is hardly noticeable that Novak Djokovic is not there and Alexander Zverev is unfortunately not allowed to play. The players will compete according to the world rankings: Numbers 2, 4, 5 and 7!
While Matteo Berrettini, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev still have a long career and hopefully many Grand Slams ahead of them, Rafael Nadal has a historic chance to win title number 21 – the first tennis player ever to do so!
With two such thrilling semi-finals, Wettfreunde.net has all the information you need to know about this world-class quartet, complete with betting tips and the right odds, of course.
Australian Open 2022 – 28.01. Preview of Day 12
Friday’s Australian Open schedule is explained very quickly. The first semifinal starts at 4:30 a.m., so once again fans from Central Europe will not be able to sleep in. But the early bird will definitely be worth it for this match.
Matteo Berrettini will meet Rafael Nadal! While the Italian wants to reach his second Grand Slam final after Wimbledon 2021 and finally progress without five sets, Nadal has completely different goals.
The 35-year-old could take advantage of the absence of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic and become the sole leader in Grand Slam titles won. A great motivation, but his shaky quarter-final has shown: it won’t be easy!
Once this match is over, Daniil Medvedev will have to show at 09:30 that he has put away his four and a half hours of tennis from the quarter-finals well. The Russian showed an unusual number of weaknesses, but knows: “One title in Melbourne – and I’m the new number 1.
Stefanos Tsitsipas wants to prevent that. The Greek already lost the semi-final of the Australian Open against Medvedev a year ago, and he doesn’t want that to happen again. The form in the quarter-finals? Great!
Australian Open today broadcast: Where are the matches on 28.01.?
The early bird catches the worm, as we all know, will also be heard on Eurosport on Friday morning. The team will once again be live when Matteo Berrettini and Rafael Nadal serve for the first time and will of course also broadcast the second semi-final. Be there via stream? No problem in the fourth-last match of this tournament!
Australian Open today 28.01: Matteo Berrettini – Rafael Nadal (04:30 h)
21 Grand Slam titles? It is a historic number that Rafael Nadal could achieve in Melbourne. First, however, the Spaniard has to make it to the final at all. His quarter-final against Denis Shapovalov revealed how difficult that could be.
Rafa gave away a 2-0 lead, but in the end he secured a 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3. Eleven double faults spoke for themselves, the young Canadian made life difficult for him. In addition, Nadal reached into the psychotrick box to unsettle him.
He had only dropped one set against Marcos Giron, Yannick Hanfmann, Karen Khachanov and Adrian Mannarino, but of course this quartet is not on the same level as Matteo Berrettini.
Nadal is ahead at 1.55 to 2.70 with the bookmakers, which is probably not only due to the only direct duel he has won at the US Open 2019. What Matteo Berrettini brings to the table is incredible mental strength.
Both against Carlos Alcaraz and Gael Monfils, the Roman squandered a 2-0 lead in the first set, but remained so cool that he won the fifth set in each case. He is known for his close matches.
Only against Pablo Carreno Busta was he able to win smoothly in three sets. He won all four tiebreaks, which speaks for his power on serve. Also strong: Only eight double faults in the entire tournament!

Australian Open today 28.01: Stefanos Tsitsipas – Daniil Medvedev (10:30am)
It wouldn’t have taken much for the dream of the new number 1 to be over! The fact that Daniil Medvedev is still in the tournament is thanks to a bit of luck and his now vast experience in important matches.
In his quarter-final against Felix Auger-Aliassime, he ended up with a 6-7, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-4. He fended off a match point, but had to admit: I am not as unbeatable as I was in New York 2021.
Already outsider Maxime Cressy had made it difficult for him when Medvedev won 6-2, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5. Two straight wins, three times “overtime” – that is unusual. Just as unusual as the six tiebreaks the Russian already has under his belt.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, his opponent, is down 2:6 in the direct duel and already lost a semi-final in Melbourne exactly one year ago. To prevent that from happening again in 2022, the Greek played himself into a frenzy in the quarter-finals.
His 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 against Jannik Sinner was a demonstration of power, and it was forgotten what big problems he had had against Taylor Fritz before. Sebastian Baez and Benoit Paire had also taken a set each from the 23-year-old.
What was particularly impressive against Sinner was that he didn’t give the Italian a single break and took all four chances himself. No question, the Greek is ready for his second GS final after Paris 2021!
