Australian Open today – Matches today 26.01.

For weeks, people had been looking forward to the start of the Australian Open 2022, but the first Grand Slam of the year is already drawing to a close! The focus is now on the exciting men’s and women’s quarter-finals.

Without German participation, but with several top favourites and surprises. On Tuesday we will see four thrilling duels, but only two players will cheer at the end.

Those who were rated by the bookmakers from the beginning as the absolute hottest contenders for the title are still in the race: Daniil Medvedev on the left and Ashleigh Barty on the right. Both have admittedly had a bit of luck of the draw.

Now the semi-finals are to follow in each case. But not only they are fighting for a place among the top four, also names like Jannik Sinner, Alize Cornet or Kaia Kanepi we might actually see in this round!

Tuesday will definitely not be boring, so as usual, wettfreunde.net has an overview of the Australian Open schedule including a few tips and odds on the matches.

Australian Open 2022 – 26.01. Preview of Day 10

The ladies will take the lead on Tuesday, Danielle Collins and Alize Cornet to be precise. No question, both were not expected in the quarterfinals. The US-American is ahead at the bookmakers, but hasn’t Cornet beaten the better players?

After this match, Iga Swiatek wants to stop the winning streak of an absolute surprise. The young Pole will meet the much more experienced Kaia Kanepi, who plays as if unleashed and could celebrate the biggest success of her career.

Those who want to devote themselves to the men start with the encounter between Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas. It could hardly be more exciting. The South Tyrolean is favoured, but those who know Tsitsipas know: he fights until the last second!

We will find out afterwards whether nervousness or sovereignty will win. Felix Auger-Alisssime wants to finally show his talent on the court. But will he fail again against the ice-cold Daniil Medvedev, who could soon be the new number one?

Australian Open today broadcast: Where are the matches on 26.01.?

Fans will have to get up much earlier for the two women’s matches if they want to follow every serve on Eurosport, as they have done in recent days. Of course, this can also be done on the go, which is ensured by the live stream. Boris Becker and Co. will also be curious to see which semi-finals await us.

Australian Open today 26.01: Jannik Sinner – Stefanos Tsitsipas (05:00 h)

The future of tennis in the quarter-finals – and only one can win! It should be pretty damn close between Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The number ten in the world meets the number four!

Sinner, 20 years old, is performing incredibly confidently Down Under and can achieve the greatest success of his career on the Grand Slam stage. He easily beat Joao Sousa and Steve Johnson in three sets.

He then had a little trouble against Taro Daniel, but then prevailed in four sets. The following straightforward victory against Alex de Minaur was particularly impressive. This probably also led to him being the favourite in his quarter-final.

1.65 to 2.20, in fact Stefanos Tsitsipas is the underdog! He could reach the semi-finals at the AO for the third time, but he has to improve for that. He only beat Mikael Ymer straight up, then it was closer.

Four sets were enough against Sebastian Baez and Benoit Paire, but Taylor Fritz even forced him into a fifth! Tsitsipas should be a bit more tired, or will the 2-1 lead against Sinner help him in the direct duel?

Australian Open today 26.01: Felix Auger-Aliassime – Daniil Medvedev (09:30am)

Between the world number nine and the world number two, it should be no less exciting. Felix Auger-Aliassime is desperate to do better against Daniil Medvedev than he did in New York a few months ago.

He lost outright to the Russian in the semi-finals, which is exactly what happened to him before the AO at the ATP Cup. In Melbourne, he is again showing his inconsistent side, which was already evident in the five sets against Henri Laaksonen in round one.

Against Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina he won the four-set tiebreaker 3:1, at least Daniel Evens he beat very clearly afterwards. Against Marin Cilic in the last 16, it was another 3-1 win, again including two tiebreaks.

Daniil Medvedev has dropped two sets so far, already one more than at the last US Open. Perhaps the new No. 1 had Maxime Cressy briefly cheering in the round of 16. The 6-2, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 was closer than he would have liked.

A year ago he had lost the final to Novak Djokovic Down Under, that cannot happen to him in 2022. With a 1.15 to 5.75, he is clearly favoured on Tuesday.

Our Expert Tip: Set win Auger-Aliassime

Australian Open today 26.01: Danielle Collins – Alize Cornet (01:00)

Was Danielle Collins to be reckoned with in the quarter-finals? The world number 30 is among the top eight players at a Grand Slam for the third time in her career. After her AO semi-final in 2019, she is desperate to repeat that success.

Admittedly, she has had a bit of luck with the tableau. After straightforward wins over Caroline Dolehide and Ana Konju, she had more trouble against Denmark’s Clara Tausaon, winning narrowly 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

She also lost the first set 6-6 against Elise Mertens before making a comeback and winning 6-4, 6-4. Her strength is her first serve, although she also produces a few double faults here. She now meets Alize Cornet for the first time.

At 1.30 to 3.30, she is the clear favourite. The Frenchwoman can’t believe what she has achieved. In her 63rd attempt, she celebrates a premiere in a quarter-final at a Grand Slam!

She knocked out Garbine Muguruza and Tamara Zidansek, but her masterpiece came in the last 16. 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against Simona Halep! If she now drops the nine double faults, she will be even harder to beat.

Our expert tip: Game HC +5 Cornet

Australian Open today 26.01: Iga Swiatek – Kaia Kanepi (03:00)

In the 1st round she threw Angelique Kerber outright, so that everyone wondered: Was the German SO weak? In the meantime it is clear: Kaia Kanepi is just damn strong at this Australian Open!

The 36-year-old Estonian has slipped to 115th place, and no one expected a successful tournament. She has reached the quarter-finals twice at every Grand Slam, but in Down Under she managed to do so for the first time.

After beating Kerber, she won just as easily against Marie Bouzkova. She then needed a third set against Maddison Inglis. Immensely strong, however, was her 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 against the world number two, Aryna Sabalenka!

Still, she is the clear underdog against Iga Swiatek at 4.20 to 1.15. The Pole, 16 years younger than her opponent, has also reached her first quarter-final at the AO. That’s why she won the French Open in 2020.

She did not face any difficult opponents in the tournament, defeating Harriet Dart, Rebecca Peterson and Daria Kasatkina in two sets. She made a comeback against Sorana Cirstea at 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, but this performance will probably not be enough against Kanepi!
