Australian Open Tips today – Matches today from 19.01.
The Australian Open 2023 has not even been running for four days and already there are the first surprises and even sensations. Probably the biggest and at the same time most bitter: defending champion Rafael Nadal is already out!
However, enough top stars with title potential are still in the tournament, some of whom will now do the honours in the 2nd round. The schedule for Thursday has some interesting matches in store for us.
Casper Ruud is now a candidate for major titles, so the Norwegian naturally wants to get to Round 3 quickly. The same goes for Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev. From a German perspective, we are of course particularly happy that Alexander Zverev is still in the mix.
He had to go through five tough sets before he was allowed to cheer. Now the Olympic champion hopes to be able to handle the second appearance with a little less effort. Speaking of effort, Andy Murray is a veteran in our Australian Open tips who can fight like no other.

Australian Open Tips Today – 19.01.2023 Preview Day 4
Casper Ruud is the player with the highest position in the world rankings after Rafael Nadal’s retirement. Whether that is pressure or incentive? In any case, the 24-year-old has to beat Jenson Brooksby to stay in the tournament.
After Andrey Rublev got off to a good start against Dominic Thiem, he should have no problems in the second round. Emil Ruusuvuori is the name of his opponent, who the bookmakers have pegged as a clear underdog.
Five sets for the comeback, it was definitely not boring for Alexander Zverev’s fans. Now Germany’s best tennis player is hoping for an improvement in performance, which he would like to present right away against Michael Mmoh.
Taylor Fritz has definitely arrived at the top of the world, and he finally wants to achieve a top result at a Grand Slam. The bookies are counting on another success against Alexei Popyrin.
Whoever knocks out Matteo Berrettini in five sets should no longer be underestimated by anyone! Andy Murray can struggle to perform at his best, so he won’t mind being a slight underdog against Thanasi Kokkinakis
Tennis tips today broadcast: Where will the matches be played on 19.01.?
Whether it’s Alexander Zverev or Casper Ruud, if you want to watch the stars on the fourth day of this Australian Open, you can do so on Eurosport. Both on TV and in the stream, tennis fans won’t miss a thing here, from the first rallies of a match to the follow-up from experts, the complete package is provided for.
Australian Open tips today 19.01.: Jenson Brooksby – Casper Ruud (02:30 Uhr)
He’s the world number 3 and now also the player with the highest ranking. Casper Ruud wants to come up big in Melbourne and show that his very strong year in 2022 was no fluke.
At the ASB Classics after the turn of the year, he lost to Laslo Djere, but his start to the Australian Open was successful. Successful, but not without difficulties.
He won against Tomas Machac 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. It took a little longer because Ruus could only use four of his 13 break chances. A demanding task now awaits him in Jenson Brooksby, not for nothing is the US American among the top 40 in the world.
The 22-year-old suffered a false start but eventually prevailed 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 over Christopher O’Connell in the 1st round. In fact, this is the first time Brooksby has served Down Under.
He has already reached the last 16 of a Grand Slam, but not in Melbourne. Last year in Rome, he dueled Casper Ruud for the first time, but lost outright. The odds of 1.35 to 3.20 are therefore quite understandable.
Our Brooksby Ruud expert tip: Over 37.5 Games
Australian Open tips today 19.01.: Andrey Rublev – Emil Ruusuvuori (03:00)
After two defeats in the Adelaide preparatory tournaments, Andrey Rublev was quite anxious going into this Australian Open, starting against Dominic Thiem. Against a slightly battered opponent, the Russian left no stone unturned in the end.
With a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 he secured his place in the 2nd round. He did not concede a single break, but only converted four of his 16 opportunities. Only in his AO debut in 2017 did he fail to beat his second opponent.
The betting companies do not expect that to happen again. The odds show an average of 1.22 to 3.95. Emil Ruusuvuori, however, is definitely on the rise, having climbed to 46th in the rankings.
The Finn beat his first opponent Max Purcell in four sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. His only duel against Andrey Rublev, by the way, ended relatively narrowly in 2021 with a 4-6, 4-6.
Our Rublev Ruusuvuori expert tip: Win Rublev & Over 3.5 sets
Australian Open tips today 19.01.: Michael Mmoh – Alexander Zverev (04:15 Uhr)
In terms of fighting spirit Alexander Zverev has not forgotten anything! After a seven-month break, the Olympic champion returned to the court and was the heavy favourite against Juan Pablo Varillas. However, the fans were ultimately presented with five partly spectacular sets.
The Olympic champion prevailed 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-4, and his nerves of steel in the fourth set were impressive. Not everything went according to plan by a long way, although 86% of points won on the first serve read very positively.
Now he is clearly ahead again against Michael Mmoh, the odds are a bit closer at 1.15 to 5.30 than in the 1st round. Zverev played the US American once almost seven years ago and won 7-6, 7-6.
Mmoh is a qualifier at the Australian Open and did not make any mistakes before the main draw. His main draw, however, started with a 0-2 set deficit before he still rallied to beat Laurent Lokoli 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Our Mmoh Zverev expert tip: Win set Mmoh
Australian Open tips today 19.01: Taylor Fritz – Alexei Popyrin (05:00)
There are over 100 places between Taylor Fritz and Alexei Popyrin, surely this is a task the ninth best tennis player in the world should be able to shoulder? With odds of 1.10 to 7.00, the bookies certainly think so.
Fritz started the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over Nikolos Bassilaschwilli, hitting a sensational 31 aces. He has never been eliminated in a 2nd round at the Australian Open, and since 2019 he has always overcome this hurdle.
Last year, Fritz made his first acquaintance with Alexei Popyrin, beating him 6-4, 6-3 in Washington. The young Australian has the crowd on his side, in fact he has already been in the 3rd round of his home Grand Slam in 2019 and 2020.
A real hussar ride gave him a cheer, against Tseng Chun-hsin he won 4-6, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1. He only used two of 14 break chances, against Fritz he must not give away his opportunities so carelessly.
Our Fritz Popyrin expert tip: 3:0 Fritz
Australian Open tips today 19.01.: Andy Murray – Thanasi Kokkinakis (10:15 a.m.)
Between Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis, the bookies seem to want to take their chances. Murray is ranked 66th, his opponent only 159th, but the odds still point to the Australian at 1.60 to 2.30.
Perhaps because he can compete at home? The doubles partner of the injured Nick Kyrgios threw Fabio Fognini out of the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, what a gala performance without a single break conceded.
It seems that the semi-final in Adelaide was no coincidence. He has never made it past the 2nd round at the Australian Open, so fans will be hoping for a first. Andy Murray, however, should know how to avoid that.
He, too, sent an Italian home in the opener, and not just any Italian, but Matteo Berrettini, the nation’s best! The 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7, 7-6 took energy, but also gave the Scot an enormous amount of confidence.
He got three breaks against the top serving Berrettini and could now advance to the 3rd round for the first time since 2017.
Our Murray Kokkinakis expert tip: 5 sets
