French Open, semi-final, Friday, 07.06.2024
Too bad this match can’t take place in the final! The tournament branches of the French Open 2024 wanted it that way: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the two top stars of the future, will meet one round earlier.
It will be a top-class semi-final, one in which the smallest details will probably decide who advances in the end. Both are playing big in Paris, underlining their title ambitions round after round.
But there has to be a favorite with the bookmakers, and that favorite is wearing the Spanish colors. I don’t really want to commit myself in my Alcaraz Sinner tip and will therefore tell you why I have a tie-break bet in mind
Novak Djokovic left the French Open without a fight before the quarter-finals, the problems with his damaged knee were too great. But there won’t be a defending champion here in Paris.
There will almost certainly be a younger champion, but unfortunately it can’t be Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner at the same time. These two, who undoubtedly have a future at the top of the world, will meet in the semi-finals on Friday for a very hot dance.
Both play irresistible tennis and are ranked second and third in the world. Who has the edge here at first glance? Perhaps a look at the direct comparison will help.
4:4? No, that wasn’t helpful at all! Alcaraz won in Indian Wells this year, but Sinner had celebrated two successes before that. The Spaniard has won three times at a major Masters, while his opponent has won their only previous duel at a major (Wimbledon 2022)
There’s no doubt that two stars are meeting on equal terms here. Does one stand out more than the other in Paris? Alcaraz particularly impressed with his victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals, winning 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
Before that, he had put Felix-Auger Aliassime in his place a little more clearly with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 and also won easily 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 against Sebastian Korda. Problems? If at all, then against Jesper de Jong, but the one lost set didn’t hurt in the end.
The young Spaniard only conceded one break against Tsitsipas, 74% of points won on his first serve and even 77% on his second were strong. The 1.83m tall pro rarely breaks 75% in the first service.
The serve alone will not decide the cracker duel on Friday anyway, it will probably be more about the form on the day. And our bookmakers are of the opinion that Alcaraz could have an advantage in this regard
The odds show us an average of 1.52 to 2.30, which he first has to confirm. Once you have placed your bet, you can also take a look at the best European Championship bonus offers at all bookmakers.
It’s quite possible that one or two German national team players will be sitting in front of the TV on Friday. If you’re like Jannik Sinner, you’ll know that the South Tyrolean has never been as good as he was in 2024.
Now that Novak Djokovic has had to retire from the French Open, one thing is certain: Jannik Sinner is the new number 1 in tennis, regardless of how Roland Garros ends for him and Carlos Alcaraz
Just in time for this announcement, the Italian put down the next exclamation marker, eliminating Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals with an uncompromising 6-2, 6-4, 7-6. No double faults, a break against himself, 81% points won on his first serve – that was something to be proud of.
The only player to briefly upset Sinner was Corentin Moutet at 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, where the upcoming number 1 shook himself briefly and then showed what can be expected of him.
The 22-year-old defeated Pavel Kotov (6-4, 6-4, 6-4), Richard Gasquet (6-4, 6-2, 6-4) and Christopher Eubanks (6-3, 6-3, 6-4) in the first three rounds without much difficulty anyway
My Alcaraz Sinner tip
Both Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have been struggling with a few aches and pains this year, the South Tyrolean was out of the race shortly before the French Open. Is he fit again? He proved that impressively!
Even after my analysis, I still can’t decide who I think will come out on top on Friday. Both could reach the final, Sinner as the new number 1 could be even more motivated.
Since I think he is slightly better on serve, but at the same time I know that Alcaraz never gives up, I believe in a relatively close, intense duel and therefore recommend the following tip:
There will be at least one tiebreak!
