Who will win the 2022 NBA Finals?
Predictions and assessments are never easy before the finals series, after all, two champions clash here who were each the best team this season in their respective seasons.
If we go by the NBA Finals betting odds of the best basketball betting providers, then the Golden State Warriors should be the big favourites to win the title and thus to win the NBA Finals 2022.
As such, the Eastern Conference champion – either Miami Heat or Boston Celtics – is only an underdog before the start of the Finals.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. In these maximum seven games, as we all know, anything is possible…
How the finals series went in the last years
The NBA Finals have been around since the 1946/47 season, and since then the NBA champion has been determined in this Finals series. Since then, the finals have been played in a best-of-7 mode.
In the last four seasons there have been four different winners and also four different finals.
List of Finals – the NBA Finals since 2010
Of the two finalists since 1970, one has come from the Western Conference and one from the Eastern Conference, which in turn are divided into three divisions.
Previously, due to the smaller number of teams, there were only two overlapping divisions, Western and Eastern.
Trophies: Here’s what’s up for grabs in the finals
The winner of the NBA Finals is the new champion.
The champion is presented with the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. This trophy is named after the third NBA commissioner Larry O’Brien, who largely reformed the US basketball league in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Each year, the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy is made from scratch, engraved with the year and name of the winning team, and remains in the possession of the team.
NBA Finals MVP Award
Since 1969, the NBA Finals MVP Award has been presented to the most valuable player of the Finals series.
Since 2009, the MVP Award has also been called the “Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award”, after em Hall-of-Famer Bill Russell.
The award is presented immediately after the decisive game of the series, so the jury’s choice is often spontaneous and based more on the last game than the entire Finals series.
The NBA Finals MVP since 2010
It is an unwritten law in the NBA Finals MVP Awards that only a player from the winning team may receive the award (the only exception to this rule was Jerry West in 1969).
This has led (albeit rarely) to a “by necessity” MVP being sought on the winning team, even though the best player in the Finals series played on the losing team.
Michael Jordan won the most Finals MVP Awards with a total of six (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998).
