Of course, the Californian derby between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors cannot be missing from our NBA tips of the week! In fact, it also offers me a good betting opportunity!
Because LA is completely off its game and is once again struggling with injury woes. The Dubs, on the other hand, haven’t exactly amazed their own fans lately, but they usually don’t let anything go against much weaker teams …
What a scoop it would be if the NBA’s overall winner from the season before last doesn’t even make the playoffs this year? What was considered impossible at the beginning of the season is becoming more and more likely every week!
Los Angeles has now won only one of its last eight NBA games and – like the Nets – is on the decline!
The most recent loss was a 111-132 defeat to the Clippers! And honestly? The 21-point defeat was still flattering. LA was able to make up for it a little bit, because Lob City slowed down the pace towards the end.
If you want to find out the cause of the Lakers’ drought, the first thing to do is to find out about the health of the two injury-prone superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis!
And ta-da, there we have the problem! Anthony Davis has been out of action since mid-February due to a broken foot! So it’s clear that Los Angeles is having a tough time right now, especially since the second suit just doesn’t fit right after the sellout at the beginning of the season!
Instead, a jacket from the second-hand shop is more likely to hang in the wardrobe of the purple and yellow. Because calling up young players like Austin Reaves and Malik Monk into the starting five will probably not be enough for play-off participation in the long run!
The Lakers are in a pitiful condition after a first impression and will have problems to stand up to the Warriors. However, the visitors have also seen much better times.
No question, with a record of 40-23 the Dubs are still the second best team in the Western Conference – in comparison: the Lakers have a much weaker record of 27-35, which threatens to get even worse from now on.
Nevertheless, Golden State has only won 30% of its last ten games! This is the weakest streak of the Yellow and Blue since the beginning of the season! If we’re going to pinpoint a reason for this downturn, we’ll probably find it in the relentless schedule!
Now I come to the most interesting observation of my Lakers Warriors tip: The visitors lost each of their last five NBA games against teams with a positive record.
Namely, the Mavericks (2 times), the Timberwolves, the Nuggets and the Clippers! Interestingly, the last two victories of the yellow-blue team were against teams with a negative record!
One of these two victories was against the Lakers, who were defeated 117-115 in front of their home crowd in mid-February! A really close result, but Anthony Davis was still as sharp as a tack at the time.
Without Davis, however, the Lakers will be missing a rebounder and rebounding specialist tonight who would significantly increase the Purple Berets’ chances of victory.
Conclusion: The visitors may not have dominated the last few games in their usual manner, but they still have an outstanding record of (40-23)! A win against LA therefore seems inevitable to me!
Moreover, the Lakers’ sporting slump has a completely different quality! Not only because of the seven defeats from the last eight games, but also because of the way most of these setbacks came about.
Against the Clippers, Los Angeles was threatened with a debacle only the day before yesterday! The loss of Anthony Davis is a problem for them at the moment and that’s why I think the Dubs will have a much clearer win this time than in their last encounter.
My Lakers Warriors tip is: Victory for the visitors with at least a three-point lead!
