EuroBasket 2022, Semifinal, Friday, 16.09.2022
Germany vs. Spain is one of the two semi-final games of this year’s EuroBasket 2022, which is not only entering its hot phase, but is already very close to the absolute boiling point!
Because the atmosphere that is currently prevailing at this European Championship is hard to believe!
After the DBB team pulled off a big surprise in the quarter-finals against the Hellenes, many basketball enthusiasts are now wondering whether the team of national coach Gordon Herbert can also reach the final.
In my Germany Spain betting tip, meanwhile, I reveal myself as someone who is now even firmly convinced that the German national basketball team can become European champions again for the 2nd time since 1993.
It’s madness what’s going on in basketball Germany at the moment! The Mercedes-Benz Arena shook just a few days ago when the DBB team was able to knock out one of the absolute top favourites, Greece, from the competition.
With odds of 1.55, the best sports betting providers were still optimistic before the tip-off that the Hellenes – whose squad is filled with Euro League stars and NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo – would remain victorious. But far from it!
Courageous gamblers could even have collected a handsome betting odds of about 2.55 for a home victory of the crowd favourite. And without much drama, because Team Germany won in the end with a relatively commanding 107:96!
Now, of course, the absolute top favourite awaits with the Spaniards! But just like in the game against the Hellenes, the Germans will be able to rely on the loud support of the fans in the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The home advantage and the bombastic atmosphere can and will, in my opinion, give the DBB selection an enormous boost. But the team is also convincing on the pitch as rarely before.
The main difference to the last European Championships is that a large part of the German squad is now under contract overseas and can therefore compete with nations like Greece, Lithuania and even Spain.
Franz Wagner, for example, is an enormously talented forward who plays for the Orlando Magic. Next up is Daniel Theis from the Pacers and of course playmaker Dennis Schröder, who – if he hadn’t fumbled in the salary poker – would still be under contract with the Lakers.
Johannes Thielmann from Alba Berlin and Andreas Obst from Bayern are the other two players who, together with the NBA legionnaires, made the difference against Greece and made it possible for them to reach the semi-finals in the first place.
The atmosphere in the Mercedes-Benz Arena is therefore top, the quality outstanding and also the Germany Spain odds of the German betting providers again provide good reasons to bet on the DBB selection.
It will be an exciting affair, but I can absolutely accept the current 1.50 favourites for Germany on the markets!
Moreover, as we all know, cross-comparisons are always a bit lame. But nothing I’ve seen from the Iberians in this tournament so far leads me to believe that the DBB selection will be fighting a losing battle on Friday.
Both teams won their game against Lithuania in overtime, Germany still in the group stage, Spain, however, in the round of 16.
One round later, Espana won against Finland with 100:90, but it was only thanks to the outstanding Willy Hernangomez and his 27 points that the game against the Scandinavians did not get much closer.
In short, there have been no easy games for the Iberians so far – with the exception of the game against the Montenegrins. At the latest after the surprising 73:83 defeat in the group phase against Belgium, Spain is anything but unbeatable for me!
Summary: Against Greece, a massive crowd of 14,073 turned the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin into an atmospheric “Basketball Maracana”.
Personally, I wouldn’t rule anything out from now on at the latest, as this DBB selection has already exceeded its wildest expectations and can beat “anyone” in front of the Berlin backdrop on Friday in the right frame of mind.
In view of the Germany-Spain odds, a bold win tip on the local hero remains the only option for me, especially since I haven’t exactly been amazed by the Iberians so far!
