British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.

One of the most traditional races in motorsport history is coming up on Sunday: the British Grand Prix. The first Formula 1 race ever took place on the legendary former airfield at Silverstone.

That was in 1950, a completely different track, completely different cars, and now, of course, we also have a completely different field of drivers. In the 2025 generation, the two McLaren drivers are battling it out for the world championship title. For Max Verstappen, the topic of a fifth world championship title is off the table, at least for this year.

In Spielberg, he was taken out by Andrea Kimi Antonelli right after the start. But the Dutchman reacted quite calmly after the collision. This may also be because he could be driving alongside the Italian at Mercedes next season.

Antonelli also retired and will have to start three places further back for causing the collision at Silverstone. In my opinion, that shouldn’t prevent him from finishing in the top 6. The odds are extremely high at 3.00.

Admittedly, with Max Verstappen, the McLaren boys, Ferrari and George Russell, the competition for the top spots is fierce. But there are several reasons to believe that the rookie will still cross the finish line in this group.

In terms of victory odds, the McLaren drivers are again slightly ahead compared to Spielberg, but only by a small margin. We have 2.50 and 2.87 here, which surprises me a little. After all, they showed last race weekend how strong they are on a classic track.

Although the temperatures are cooler, Norris or Piastri should still come out on top, provided they don’t get in each other’s way. Perhaps that’s precisely why our top bookmakers have raised the odds on the World Championship rivals winning slightly…

As an alternative to the individual win odds, I’m tempted by the 1.37 for a McLaren victory in the lower odds segment. This bet should be particularly attractive for betting enthusiasts who are still looking for odds to combine.

The odds for Antonelli finishing the race in the points are a little lower. However, at 1.22, I still think this is too high. If he sees the finish line, he will certainly be in the top 10.

Mercedes feels comfortable on this track and is practically always among the front runners here. The current car particularly likes the lower temperatures. If it’s not quite so hot, Russell is the one to watch out for.

But Antonelli is also getting better and better, the gap per lap to the more experienced number one driver in the team is reasonable, and the crash in Spielberg was his first real mistake.

Thanks to his good debut and the fact that Russell and Verstappen are unlikely to drive for the same team due to their differences, he has a good chance of continuing to drive for the Silver Arrows next season.

I think he’s capable of not only scoring points but also finishing in the top six. Verstappen, Russell, and McLaren are the only drivers I see with a real pace advantage, possibly Ferrari as well, but the Scuderia keeps faltering.

Similar to Mercedes, they lack consistency. But even if both finished ahead of Antonelli, the Italian would still be at least seventh in the pecking order. Then it’s not far to the top 6, and everything has to go smoothly for everyone else.

I think 3.00 is far too high for that. And, as already mentioned, Mercedes likes the conditions at Silverstone, so I see an advantage here compared to Ferrari.

The last 5 races at the Silverstone Circuit:

On top of that, there are often crashes at Silverstone, and the McLaren duel is highly explosive. The teammates are allowed to race hard, but they are also supposed to race fairly. However, they don’t really stick to that. Piastri was lucky not to knock Norris off the track in Spielberg.

Norris drove into his Australian teammate’s car in the race before, and in 2024, the two World Championship rivals have already had a few borderline duels. That alone could lead to another crash and retirement.

Speaking of retirements. Less than 18.5 drivers in the final standings is now a real classic for me, but it’s also going really well. Rookie mistakes, technical failures, unnecessary collisions or crashes, something always helped with the bet.

That’s why I’m including it in my hottest tips for the race at Silverstone this time around. Interwetten is one of the best betting providers for Formula 1, and not just because of the odds. You can also conveniently top up your credit via PayPal.

Conclusion: Once again, the odds selection is not bad, and I definitely like the 3.00 for Antonelli in the top 6 best. Yes, he has to start three places further back, but he should be able to make up for that easily during the race.

And then all the other drivers with top cars have to get through first, and there are only six of them. Yuki Tsunoda doesn’t count, as he only manages to score points sporadically. All the other teams are too far behind the pace of the best teams.

Since I don’t expect a good race weekend from Ferrari, the McLaren drivers could collide, a sharp maneuver by Verstappen could go wrong, or someone could slip out in the rain, I’m going for Antonelli’s top-6 finish.

Oh, and then there’s Russell, who is clearly bothered by the fact that various publications have already written Verstappen into his cockpit. He could, of course, show some nerves in the race…

That’s why my betting tip is: Antonelli in the top 6
