The track of the Belgian GP
The Belgian Formula 1 GP is run on the infamous Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, located in the Ardennes in the triangle between the towns of Stavelot (of which the circuit is a part), Spa and Malmedy.
This circuit has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 1950.
No wonder, after all, the race track in the Belgian Ardennes has everything to offer. A difference in altitude of around 100 metres and, with the Eau Rouge, one of the most spectacular corners of all.
The “Ardennes roller coaster” has a total length of about 7 kilometres and 21 bends. There are 44 laps to complete at the Spa Grand Prix.
The record winner at Spa is Michael Schumacher with six victories. He even drove his first ever Grand Prix there in 1991 and celebrated his first victory at the “Ardennes Classic” in 1992.
Since 2019, there have been three different winners at the Spa GP: in 2019 Charles Leclerc won, in 2020 Lewis Hamilton won and in the last two years Max Verstappen triumphed.
Who is favourite for the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa?
Who will win the Belgian Grand Prix in 2023? In this Formula 1 season, the winner is almost decided before the race. Red Bull in general and Max Verstappen in particular have been too superior.
The Red Bull driver leads the Formula 1 world championship standings by a clear margin and is already almost certain to be the 2023 world champion.
Max Verstappen is also the big favourite for the Belgian GP in Spa-Francorchamps.
The question remains: Will he win the eighth consecutive race of the season at the Spa GP? He has won all of the last seven Grand Prix. Most recently at the Hungaroring in Hungary.
Behind Verstappen, on the other hand, there has been plenty of variety on the podium in recent races.
At the Hungarian and Silverstone Grands Prix, McLaren driver Lando Norris was in second place alongside Verstappen for the last two races in a row. Third place went to the second Red Bull driver Sergio Perez (in Hungary) and to Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton (in Silverstone).
So the only suspense will probably be who will finish the Spa GP in second and third behind Verstappen…
