Date & Time: When is the Zandvoort GP?
Following the Belgian Grand in Spa, the Formula 1 squad moves to Zandvoort, just a few kilometres away on the Dutch North Sea coast.
The Dutch Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, 4 September, at the Circuit Zandvoort. The start time is 16:00.
The first two free practice sessions will take place on Friday (12:30 & 15:00), before the third practice session follows on Saturday (13:00) and qualifying from 16:00.
TV & Livestream: Who will show the Zandvoort GP live?
In Germany, the Dutch Formula 1 GP will be broadcast live on TV and exclusively on Sky and RTL.
On Sky Sport F1, the Zandvoort GP broadcast will run live on all three days – the three practice sessions, qualifying and, of course, the race on Sunday.
In addition, the Sky Live broadcast will also feature extensive preliminary reports, analyses and interviews, as well as all the press conferences.
With the streaming platform WOW – formerly Sky Ticket – and Sky Go (for all existing Sky customers) there is also the possibility to watch the Spa GP 2022 broadcast via Livestream.
A second option to watch the Dutch Grand Prix live is RTL. The private broadcaster is allowed to show four Formula 1 races a year live, and the Zandvoort Grand Prix is one of them.
But: RTL only shows the race live on Sunday. The broadcast starts at 2 p.m.
Who is Sky F1 commentator in Zandvoort?
Sky is relying on its tried and tested team for the Formula 1 broadcast from Zandvoort.
Sascha Roos will be the commentator on the microphone for the Zandvoort GP live broadcast. The experts are the two former Formula 1 drivers Ralf Schumaher and Timo Glock.
Presenter Peter Hardenacke and reporter Sandra Baumgartner will be on site for the entire race weekend and will report from the mixed zone with interviews and background info.
The circuit of the Netherlands Grand Prix
The Formula 1 GP of the Netherlands is run on the Circuit Zandvoort, which is located directly on the North Sea.
Circuit Zandvoort is known for its fast, exciting and sharp corners and elevation changes of up to 15 metres.
The circuit is only 4.320 kilometres long and has 15 bends. Due to the shortness of the track, a total of 72 laps are run here during the Grand Prix.
Zandvoort track: length & curves
The most famous curve on this sandy rollercoaster circuit is the Tarzan Curve, the first curve after the straight. Since this is a 180-degree curve, exciting catch-up manoeuvres can be expected here.
Both the Hugenholtz curve and the Arie Luyendijk curve were converted into concave steep curves. Curve three was thus given a gradient of between 8 and 18 per cent and the last curve an even greater banking of 32 per cent (18 degrees).
Until 1985, Zandvoort was a regular fixture on the Formula 1 calendar, but from then on, the premier class of motor sport gave this circuit a wide berth. In 2021 there was the comeback, which Max Verstappen won.
Who is favourite for the Formula 1 Zandvoort GP 2022?
Given the last few races, there can only be one favourite for the Formula 1 GP at Zandvoort: Max Verstappen.
The reigning world champion is currently driving the competition into the ground. The victory in Spa last weekend was his third success in a row and the 9th victory in total this season.
What’s more, the Zandvoort GP is his home race and “Mad Max” already won here last year!
Who could spoil Max Verstappen’s “home party”?
According to the Formula 1 betting odds, Ferrari star Charles Leclerc is seen as Verstappen’s biggest opponent in the home Grand Prix. But things have not been going well at all for the Ferrari driver lately. In Spa he only finished sixth.
At the Belgian Grand Prix, Verstappen was joined on the podium by his team-mate Sergio Perez in second place and the second Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz in third.
And Mercedes? After strong performances before the summer break, things did not go to plan for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at Spa. Hamilton crashed out in round 1, Russell finished fourth.
But perhaps the big hour will now strike for the Silver Arrows at Zandvoort?
