Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, Sunday, 16.03.2025 at 05:00 a.m.

Finally it starts! The 2025 Formula 1 season kicks off in Melbourne this weekend and here is my GP Australia tip for you in good time.

Can Max Verstappen win his fifth title in a row? It doesn’t look that way. He already had problems with his Red Bull last year during the season and we can see them at the Australian GP as well.

On Saturday, it was at least good for one lap. The champion starts from third place behind the superior McLaren drivers. Lando Norris snatched pole position ahead of Oscar Piastri!

Due to the dominance of the Papaya drivers, I am convinced that we will also see the Australian and Norris’s teammate on the podium. Like his teammate, he is very comfortable with the new make.

For a top 3 finish, we still get a strong 1.80 odds at Bwin. The reason for this is likely to be the expected rain, which could stir up the field a bit. But McLaren in particular should feel comfortable with the car that provides the most grip in adverse conditions.

At Bwin, the best Formula 1 bets are waiting for you anyway, and these odds are ultimately also my Australian Grand Prix tip!

Australian GP start times: TV and stream broadcast

At the moment it looks like it will be wet at the beginning, but the rain should subside towards the end of the race. The rule is: if you feel comfortable in your car at the start of the season, you will benefit even more in the rain.

However, Verstappen, who is considered the best wet-weather driver, is likely to be a greater danger. Besides him, there are still two places on the podium to be won. And the Ferraris, which messed up qualifying, are far away on the grid with seventh and eighth places.

So for the race in Australia, it’s definitely worth waiting for the weather before placing your bet. If the forecasts prove true and the floodgates open, you should look towards the under-bet in the final classification.

Because this season we have five rookies in the field. Overall, every second cockpit was newly occupied, and many drivers, such as Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari and Nico Hülkenberg at Sauber, are still in the orientation phase in the new vehicle.

And we already had the first accident on Friday. Oliver Bearman, who is entering his first year as a regular driver, went off the track in his Haas VF-25, ended up in the fence and took off again on Saturday!

Besides him, we saw numerous other drivers off the track, which is not one of the permanent race tracks.

Which means that the course doesn’t provide the best grip anyway, and certainly not when it rains. Because then it gets cool and the grip built up over the past few days is history.

Bet365 has an enormous selection of bets for the Australian GP. I think the under 17.5 drivers in the final classification is particularly hot.

At these odds, a maximum of 17 drivers may have completed 90 percent of the race distance. This has fallen quite a bit over the course of the weekend, but is still worthwhile in my opinion.

If we expect four retirements, we can even get a 2.62 quote. If you want to take a chance on the high odds, you should take a look at the new customer bonus, which you can get with the code: “VIPANGEBOT”. By the way, you bet tax-free here!

If the weather forecast indicates dry conditions, I would take a closer look at the Melbourne bet at Bet365 that Verstappen will miss out on the podium. With a full tank of fuel, I don’t see Red Bull at the front.

The world champion is more likely to be fighting the Mercedes drivers, perhaps with a Hamilton who, in the red car, was unable to match the Leclerc pace at the start. The Monegasque driver should be quite fast on a dry track, at the latest with a good strategy.

The last 5 races at the Albert Park Circuit:

And what is our German driver Hülkenberg doing? At least he made a name for himself in training. But like his ex-team Haas, he is only likely to drive for the golden pineapple in the city park and will have to hope for some retirements to take anything home.

I find the 1.65 interesting that he beats his teammate, who is facing his very first F1 race, which is also taking place in rainy conditions that suit the “Hulk” just fine. He just missed out in qualifying.

Another hot betting tip for the race in Melbourne is that both McLaren and Ferrari will reach the top 6. In dry conditions, the two racing teams are unbeatable for me and Hamilton feels more comfortable in the race trim than in qualifying.

And in the rain, the new Ferrari star will be able to really impress. Because he is definitely one of the rain elite in the premier class. Norris, Leclerc and Piastri just have to hope to get through without crashing or suffering a technical defect.

Conclusion: So, the weather at the Australian GP is crucial to deciding which bets are best for me. The perfect all-rounder odds are a top-3 finish for Piastri. McLaren is dictating the pace.

On top of that, Piastri is particularly motivated at home: he could be the first local driver to win the Australian Grand Prix, and Norris is not one of the best starters on the grid.

The 5.00 for the race win is a long shot, but I’m covering myself with the equally tasty 1.80 for the top three!

Therefore, my Australia GP betting tip is: Piastri in the top 3!
