VfL Wolfsburg – Borussia Mönchengladbach
The Bundesliga continues this weekend and on Sunday afternoon two table neighbors meet. VfL Wolfsburg will host Borussia Mönchengladbach at home. But the two teams are not only close in the Bundesliga table. In the table of who has gambled away the most points after taking the lead, Gladbach are in first place with 27 points and Wolfsburg are in second place with 20 points. An inglorious statistic that shows how much potential both teams have, but how rarely it is played to the end with concentration. Find out who can win the third clash between the two this season in our Wolfsburg – Gladbach betting tip.
Wolfsburg were able to bag their long-awaited first win of the 2024 calendar year on the final matchday. Playing away against Bremen, they were outnumbered from the 43rd minute onwards and took full advantage, scoring a few minutes later to take a 1-0 lead. A red card for Lacroix, which was once again questionable, made the game tense again, but Majer made it 2-0 with five minutes to go to secure their first win since December.
Despite trailing 1-0 early on, Gladbach’s Saturday afternoon did not start badly and the first half at home to SC Freiburg was impressive. After the break, however, the Foals seemed to be completely changed and conceded a second goal just two minutes after the restart. The goal seemed to have a classic effect and Gladbach hardly took part in the game any more. The goal to make it 3-0 in the 57th minute dashed any hopes of a comeback and Gladbach suffered their eleventh defeat of the season

Wolfsburg Form & Balance Check
Wolfsburg’s season performance has stagnated almost constantly since matchday one. While they were still able to perform well at times in the first half of the season, the team literally collapsed in the second half and must be careful not to end up in the relegation battle. They have one draw from their last five games, three defeats in a row and one win last weekend, which could act as a knot-breaker.
With a record of 13 defeats this season, the Wolves find themselves in 14th place in the table, eight points clear of the relegation places. They will be looking to dispel any doubts as quickly as possible with victory behind them
Fearful opponent Gladbach?
Wolfsburg’s last win against the Foals was a good four years ago. They have not been able to score three points at home or in Gladbach for eight games and Borussia could slowly become a kind of “fearful opponent” for Wolfsburg. VfL have also lost their two matches so far this season. Whether coach Ralph Hasenhüttl will find the right words for the upcoming game will become clear on Sunday afternoon
Wolfsburg facts & analysis
- Fifth worst offense in the league
- 14th place in the table
- 20 points squandered after taking the lead
Gladbach Form & Balance Check
Gladbach’s season so far has been very mediocre, not to say bad. They have never finished higher than ninth in the table and their last five games are not necessarily a reason for confidence. One win, three draws and one defeat – that’s their record over the last few matchdays. This leaves them in 13th place in the table, level on points with Wolves and also eight points clear of the relegation places.
A defensive horror in Gladbach
Gladbach’s defense really leaves a lot to be desired this season. With 53 goals conceded in 27 league games, they have the third-worst defense in the league. For example, the worst offense in the league, 1. FC Köln, has scored six of its 21 goals against the Foals this season. Gladbach must get this vulnerability under control, otherwise they will have to drop even further down the table
Gladbach facts & analysis
- Third-worst defense in the league
- Most points squandered after taking the lead
- Last game lost
Ralph Hasenhüttl will probably start in a 4-2-3-1. He only has two central defenders available for the upcoming game, as Lacroix (suspension) and Zesiger (yellow card) are both missing. Baku and Jenz will have to move into the defense for them. Wimmer is back in the squad after serving his suspension and is likely to take on a central role in midfield. Compared to the game in Bremen, there will therefore be some changes in terms of names and formation.
Gerardo Seoane could switch back to a 4-3-3 after last weekend’s defeat. He will still be without midfielder Kone (torn muscle fiber), with Reitz moving into the center. Plea and Ngoumou could also be options for the attack if the coach wants to add new accents
