VfL Wolfsburg – Eintracht Frankfurt
This weekend, football fans can once again look forward to five games in the Bundesliga conference. In Lower Saxony, two teams will then meet that are neighbours in the table at the end of the pre-season and also at the present time. Our Wolfsburg – Frankfurt tip will tell you which team will ultimately prevail in this duel.
At the end of the pre-season, the SGE finished in seventh place, while the Wolves finished one place lower. So far this season, it looks the other way round. In the previous week, however, both teams went home without a win. While the Adler played 0:0 at home against Freiburg, the VfL lost 0:1 in Dortmund.
VfL Wolfsburg has won both of its home games this Bundesliga season. The last time this was achieved in a Bundesliga season at the start was in the 2015/16 season. On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt also have a strong home record. In the calendar year 2023, Frankfurt remained unbeaten at home in the Bundesliga, with six wins and six draws. In contrast, there was not a single win away from home.

Wolfsburg Form & Balance Check
VfL Wolfsburg struggled for a long time last season to qualify for international competitions, but fell just short of that goal. In the new season under the leadership of coach Niko Kovac, the Wolves are aiming to achieve an even better ranking in the Bundesliga. The start of the season was promising for the team from the Autostadt.
The VfL won the first two games against Heidenheim and Cologne before suffering a defeat against Hoffenheim. However, the Lower Saxons got back on track in their last home game against Union Berlin, winning 2-1. Despite a 1-0 defeat against Dortmund last Saturday, Wolfsburg are seventh in the table after five games.
Wind wants to know
Jonas Wind has been a key player for VfL Wolfsburg this Bundesliga season. The team has scored seven goals so far and the Dane has been instrumental in six of them, with five goals and one assist. This puts the 24-year-old in fourth place in the Bundesliga-wide goalscoring charts.
Another goal from him would already set his personal season record in the Bundesliga, as he scored six times in the past 2022/23 season. If he scores his sixth goal after six Bundesliga matchdays on Saturday, he would also set a new record for VfL, as no Wolfsburg player has ever done that before.
Wolfsburg facts & analysis
- No draw yet this season
- Lost 0:1 against Dortmund the previous week
- Currently in seventh place in the league
Frankfurt form & balance check
After Eintracht enjoyed a historic past season and were active in the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history, the Eagles are looking to attack at the top again this season. The Hessians would like to improve on their seventh-place finish from the previous season and advance far into the Conference League.
In the Bundesliga, however, the SGE has been rather disappointing so far. The Adler have not had a particularly difficult start to the season, but are still in eighth place with seven points. In the previous week, the Hessians were unable to get beyond a 0-0 draw against Freiburg at home in the Waldstadion despite having the visual upper hand.
Marmoush returns
For Omar Marmoush, a very special game is on the agenda this coming Saturday. The Egyptian striker moved from VfL Wolfsburg to Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. In the past season, the attacker played in 33 of 34 games for the Lower Saxons. However, the goal-scorer did not always have a regular place, as he came on as a substitute in 18 games.
Nevertheless, of all the Wolfsburg players, he was the one who fired the most shots on goal, an impressive 48 attempts on the opponent’s goal. At the SGE, the 24-year-old has mostly been used in the unfamiliar position of striker and has scored one goal in the league so far.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
- Fourth best offence in the league.
- Eighth in the Bundesliga
- Still winless away from home in 2023
Predicted line-up – last update on 28 September 2023
For VfL, we expect the 4-2-3-1 as the basic system again. In the attack of the Wolves, Jonas Wind will again be the striker. On the wings, there could again be some changes in the starting eleven. Lukas Nmecha and Kilian Fischer, however, will still be missing for the hosts due to injury.
Eintracht will again start in their 3-4-2-1 on Saturday against VfL Wolfsburg. Omar Marmoush will again play in the forward line against his former club. In the centre of midfield, Skhiri and Larsson are slowly playing their way in.
