VfL Wolfsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund
The Bundesliga has several top games on matchday 13. In addition to the clash between Leipzig and the Werkself on Sunday, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund will also meet on Saturday at 15:30. You can watch this match live on Sky, our prediction can be found in the following Wolfsburg vs Dortmund tip.
At home in the Volkswagen Arena, the Wolves will be looking to halt their recent negative trend. Things got off to a good start under new coach Florian Kohfeldt, but VfL have since slipped back to sixth place. With a win against BVB, Wolfsburg could return to a Champions League place.
Dortmund have also suffered some setbacks recently, especially the early and disappointing exit from the Champions League. In the Bundesliga, however, the Black and Yellows were able to close the gap on the record champions at the top of the table last weekend thanks to Bayern’s slip-up, which is now only one point.

Wolfsburg Form & Balance Check
VfL Wolfsburg got off to a really good start after the change of coach from Mark van Bommel to Florian Kohfeldt. The Wolves won their first three competitive matches in Leverkusen, against Salzburg and against Augsburg, which triggered a wave of euphoria. But then came the international break, which seems to have thrown the VfL out of its rhythm. On Saturday, there was only a disappointing 2:2 at Arminia Bielefeld, and during the week Wolfsburg then lost 0:2 in Sevilla. This means that the Wolves must win their last group game against Lille if they are to make it into the last 16.
Form curve points downwards
In the draw in Bielefeld, Wolfsburg were not in the game at all in the first hour. Thus, after 60 minutes of play, the Wolves were completely deservedly down 0:2, Okugawa and Klos scoring the goals for Arminia. But then Kohfeldt brought on Dodi Lukebakio, who immediately set up Weghorst for the equaliser. Only a minute later, Nmecha equalised after an assist from Philipp, who had also been substituted. With this morally important draw, the team went into the important Champions League match against Sevilla, but there was nothing to be gained for weak Wolves. Only one really dangerous scene was recorded by VfL in the 0:2 defeat.
Wolfsburg facts & analysis
– Winless for 2 competitive matches
– Only in 6th place in the Bundesliga
– Last played 2:2 against Bielefeld
Dortmund form & balance check
Dortmund are currently not in particularly dazzling form. Already before the international break, BVB fell into a slight negative trend and lost the important games against Ajax Amsterdam and RB Leipzig – mind you, with a very thin squad. Last weekend, the team played an equally injury-plagued Stuttgart, where Borussia was able to celebrate another victory. This was by no means convincing, but it reduced the gap to Bayern to one point due to their surprising defeat in Augsburg.
Bitter defeat in Lisbon leads to CL elimination
During the week, however, another setback followed directly. In the final match for the round of 16 in the Champions League, Dortmund had to get at least a point against Sporting Lisbon to keep their chances of advancing alive. But BVB again had to do without countless regular players and in the end lost in a bitter manner with 1:3. Pedro Goncalves put the half-time score at 2:0 for the hosts with his brace, in the second half Can conceded a questionable red card, a short time later Pedro Porro converted the follow-up of a penalty to make it 3:0. In injury time Donyell Malen still managed to score the consolation goal, but at the end of the day Dortmund was eliminated from the Champions League by this defeat.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– 2nd place in the Bundesliga
– Lost 3 of last 4 competitive matches
– Last win 2:1 against Stuttgart
Predicted line-up – last update on 25 November 2021
Kohfeldt could resort to light rotation after the English week. Otavio should displace Roussillon, Philipp and Lukebakio are alternatives to Vranckx, then Gerhardt would move back into central midfield next to Arnold. Regular keeper Koen Casteels is missing due to a Corona infection, and Renato Steffen, who has been in poor form lately, is also questionable with a calf injury.
Left-back Raphael Guerreiro was actually scheduled to start against Lisbon, but complained of muscular problems during the warm-up. Should he not be fit by Saturday, Emre Can has the edge as a replacement over the error-prone Nico Schulz. Otherwise, Can could give Axel Witsel a rest on the six, with Mo Dahoud also a starting option again. Thorgan Hazard may be able to get time off in time for the weekend after his Corona infection, but would then probably be scheduled more as a wild card.
