Watford FC vs. Tottenham Hotspur
The Bundesliga takes a final break this weekend before the second half of the season gets underway. In Spain’s La Liga and the English Premier League, however, games will already be played on New Year’s Day. Among the four Premier League games on 01.01.2022 is the clash between Watford FC and Tottenham Hotspur, kick-off is at 16:00 at Vicarage Road. Our prediction for this match can be found in the following Watford vs Tottenham tip.
Watford are in danger of going straight back to the second division after being promoted last summer. The Hornets are currently one place outside the red zone with just 13 points from 17 games, but Burnley, who are behind them, have two games in hand. Tottenham have also played fewer games compared to their direct rivals, which certainly gives hope. With 30 points from 17 games, sixth-placed Spurs are currently five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal. So with two games to go, they could still overtake their local rivals.

Watford Form & Balance Check
Watford FC have been a bit of an enigma this season. The Hornets are clear relegation candidates and have lost a full 12 of their 17 league games, only Norwich have one more on their record with 13 defeats (though they have also played 19 games). At the same time, Watford have been a different team from time to time, for example in the two clear victories at Everton (5:2) and against Man United (4:1). In the narrow defeats against the top teams Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham in the first leg, the team also sold itself quite dearly.
Series of defeats continues to grow
After the win against the Red Devils, however, there have been five league defeats in a row. Before the last defeat against West Ham, three games were cancelled due to corona and there was no chance of a match rhythm. So the Hornets went down 1:4 at home against the Hammers, after they had even taken the lead in the 4th minute through ex-Cologne player Emmanuel Dennis. But West Ham turned the game around with goals from Soucek, Benrahma, Noble and Vlasic to take a deserved and clear away win.
Watford facts & analysis
– 17th place in the PL
– Last lost 1:4 against West Ham
– 5 defeats in a row
Tottenham form & balance check
Spurs have visibly stabilised under new coach Antonio Conte. Since the Italian took over from summer signing Nuno Espirito Santo in early November after the 3-0 defeat to Man United, Tottenham are still unbeaten in the league and have lost just two games in total. As well as the surprising 2-1 loss to Mura in the Conference League, their last group game against Rennes was also questionably rated 3-0 to Spurs. As the Londoners were unable to get a team together due to corona and thus missed out on three important points, they are now out of the Conference League.
Only draw at Southampton
Although the European Cup exit was disappointing, it also has its good sides. Conte’s team can now concentrate on the league and tackle the big goal of Champions League qualification. The league situation looks quite good in this respect, the series of seven unbeaten games in a row helps. Most recently, however, Tottenham could not get past a 1-1 draw at Southampton. After Ward-Prowse had scored the lead for the hosts, Harry Kane equalised with a penalty. Afterwards, Spurs played a good 50 minutes on the edge of their seats, but failed to score again and thus missed out on important points.
Tottenham facts & analysis
– 6th place in the PL
– Last played 1-1 at Southampton
– Unbeaten in seven league games
Predicted line-up – last update on 30 December 2021
We don’t expect any personnel changes at the hosts. Cleverley, Rose, Etebo and Baah have all been absent through injury, while ex-Cologne player Emmanuel Dennis is expected to start up front again. On Tottenham’s side, we expect Lucas Moura to start instead of Alli. Tanganga, Skipp and Doherty are also options from the start.
