Union Berlin – Werder Bremen
In the Bundesliga Conference, all nine games are traditionally on the 34th matchday. In Köpenick, it comes to the duel between Union Berlin and SV Werder Bremen. For the hosts, the last matchday is about a place in the Champions League. Before the last match, Union is in fourth place. However, chasing Freiburg are level on points with the Köpenickers and are only below the Eisern on goal difference. Find out in our Union vs Bremen betting tips whether the FCU will make it into the top flight on Saturday.
A place in the top flight would be the crowning glory of an outstanding season and would also be the logical consequence of the season. So far, Union have finished in the top four on 31 of the 33 matchdays this season. What is definitely pleasing for the fans of the Eisernen, however, is that FCU has already secured a place in the Europa League.
For the visitors from the Weser, meanwhile, there is nothing left to play for in the last game of the season. In the previous week, Bremen finally secured their place in the league with a 1-1 draw against Cologne. As twelfth in the table, nothing more can happen to Bremen. Bremen’s greatest motivation may still be to help their striker Niclas Füllkrug claim the goalscoring crown.

Union Form & Balance Check
Union are on the verge of the greatest success in the club’s history. The Köpenicker are in fourth place in the table one matchday before the end of the season and are therefore in pole position in the battle for the Champions League places. Their rivals from Freiburg, however, are tied for fifth place with Union.
In the previous week, the FCU could have already secured qualification for the top flight. A win at Hoffenheim, who are in danger of relegation, would have been enough to keep Freiburg at bay. However, Union lost 2:4 at TSG, making it exciting until the last matchday.
Fortress on the Wuhle
However, the fans of the Eisernen will be very happy that the last match of the season will take place at home in Köpenick. Because FCU has not lost a single league game at home this season. In addition to six draws, Union have also won ten games at the Alte Försterei.
In addition, FCU conceded only eleven goals in the first 16 home games this season. This means that Union has the best defence in the entire league at home. In fact, the Eisernen are unbeaten in 22 Bundesliga home games this season.
Union facts & analysis
- Fourth place in the Bundesliga table
- Second best defence in the Bundesliga
- Still without a home defeat this Bundesliga season
Bremen form & balance check
Werder Bremen are back in the top flight after a year-long tour of the 2. Bundesliga and have had little contact with the relegation battle throughout the season. Currently, coach Ole Werner’s team finds itself in twelfth place.
On match days 32 and 33, the SVW already had the opportunity to secure their relegation with a win. However, unfortunate defeats against Bayern and Leipzig prevented complete certainty on the Weser. In the previous week, however, Bremen finally secured their membership of the German top flight with a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln.
Bremen strong away
The North Germans do not only feel at home in the Weser Stadium this season. In this Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen are the only team to collect a higher number of points in away matches than in home matches.
In the away table, the Hanseatic team occupies ninth place with 19 points, while they are in last place in the home table with 17 points. It is therefore not surprising that Bremen’s last victory was also away from home. At the end of April Werder won 4:2 at Hertha, also in Berlin. Perhaps this is a good omen for the SVW.
Bremen facts & analysis
- In twelfth place in the Bundesliga table.
- Only four wins in the new year
- Only one win in last eleven games
Predicted line-up – last update on 25 May 2023
Union will not deviate from their usual 3-5-2 system in the final game of the season. Apart from András Schäfer, all players will be available to coach Urs Fischer on Saturday. We expect Kevin Behrens and Sheraldo Becker to be together up top again.
Bremen will also start the game in a 3-5-2 again. Duksch and Füllkrug will again play the dangerous double forward role. Jens Stage, however, will be missing from the last game of the season with a yellow suspension.
