VfB Stuttgart vs. Hertha BSC
On the 14th matchday of the Bundesliga, two struggling clubs, VfB Stuttgart and Hertha BSC, duel on Sunday. The two neighbours in the standings have so far failed to live up to expectations and are together in a relegation battle after almost completing the first half of the season. In the last games before the turn of the year, both clubs have another chance to go into the winter break with a good feeling. The match kicks off on Sunday at 15:30 in Stuttgart’s Mercedes-Benz Arena, and you can find our prediction in the following Stuttgart vs Hertha tip.
VfB Stuttgart have picked up 13 points from their first 13 games, which is currently only enough for 15th place. FC Augsburg, who are in the relegation zone, are level on points with Stuttgart and are only lower down on goal difference. Hertha are one point behind the two basement teams and are currently 14th in the table. A win on Sunday could give Stuttgart or Berlin a buffer, while the capital city side will also be looking to give Tayfun Korkut a successful debut as Hertha coach.

Stuttgart Form & Balance Check
Stuttgart have finally been able to breathe again and take the first step out of their sporting crisis. After six games in a row without a win and a series of three Bundesliga defeats in a row, VfB won the home game against Mainz with 2-1. Since the Swabians had previously even slipped to the relegation place, this third win of the season represented an important liberation. Nevertheless, Stuttgart are still in the midst of the relegation battle, from which they were able to stay away last season as promoted teams.
Unusual scorers against Mainz
The three-goal win against Mainz, however, was a hard piece of work. But VfB could rely on two premiere goal scorers and an assist double. Hiroki Ito and Borna Sosa, two nominal defensive players, scored for the Swabians, with the final pass coming from Orel Mangala in each case. Ito’s goal after 20 minutes was equalised by Alexander Hack before the break. Shortly after the restart, however, Sosa added to the tally with a powerful left-footed shot from an acute angle to secure an important 2-1 victory.
Stuttgart facts & analysis
– 15th place in the Bundesliga
– Last won 2:1 against Mainz
– Previously 6 competitive games without a win and 3 league defeats in a row
Hertha form & balance check
At Hertha this week it was all about the new coach Tayfun Korkut. The football coach replaced club legend Pal Dardai on the Berlin bench earlier this week and was given a contract until the end of the season. Dardai and manager Bobic are said to have been at loggerheads for some time for various reasons, but the timing of the split was nevertheless sudden. Last weekend, Herthaner gave away three points in a last-second draw with Augsburg, but the performance was not bad overall.
Another negative run for the Berliners
However, the Berliners have been in poor form again recently after a small interim high. From the last four games, Hertha only picked up two points and not a single win, and also let themselves be robbed of three points late on in the two draws against Leverkusen and Augsburg. On top of that, there were the two 2-0 defeats against Hoffenheim and Union, the latter of which was particularly painful. In the Hautpstadt derby, the Herthans showed a subterranean performance and didn’t create any real scoring chances, which was probably one of the reasons for Dardai’s departure.
Hertha facts & analysis
– Rank 14 in the Bundesliga
– Last played 1:1 against Augsburg
– Without a win for 4 games
Predicted line-up – last updated on 3 December 2021
For VfB, Karazor and Kempf are questionable, but both could move into the starting eleven. On the offensive side, Coulibaly should return after a yellow ban, Silas is probably not yet an option from the start after a long absence. Didavi and Nartey are other alternatives. At Hertha, we can be curious about the system and personnel of the new coach. Korkut liked to serve the 4-4-2 at his last coaching stations, which is why we have arranged the Berliners that way for the time being. However, the football coach’s last job was also three years ago by now, so a lot may have changed here.
