Stuttgart Form & record check

After a historic season, Stuttgart first has to get used to the triple burden and has been performing very solidly so far. They have one win, three draws from their last five league games and were beaten 4-0 by Bayern on matchday seven.

Because it was only their second defeat of the season, they are still well placed in the table. They are currently in eighth place and only three points behind the places that would qualify them for the Champions League. During the week, they lost 0-3 to Bergamo in this very competition. We will see on Sunday to what extent Sebastian Hoeneß’s team are at 100% fitness.

Good signs

VfB Stuttgart have now gone three Bundesliga games unbeaten against Eintracht. In these last encounters, they have recorded two wins and a draw. The last time the Swabians went longer without defeat against Frankfurt was from 2011 to 2013, when they managed the feat four times.

In addition, VfB scored more goals against Frankfurt (186) and recorded more wins (44) than against any other team in the top flight. It seems as if the Hessians are something of a favorite opponent for Stuttgart.

Stuttgart facts & analysis
  • 8th place
  • Last league game 0-0 against Leverkusen
  • Lost 0-2 to Bergamo in the CL during the week

Frankfurt Form & record check

Frankfurt have enjoyed a phenomenal start to the season. They conceded in the opening game of the season from the first five league games, but then won four in a row. In the last four weeks, it seemed as if the magic of Eintracht was waning a bit due to two draws and one loss, but with a dominant 7-2 win over VfL Bochum, they left no doubt that they are capable of something very special this season.

They are currently in third place in the table, three points behind second place and six behind first. With only a two-point cushion between them and the positions that would no longer be enough for European business, they must remain highly focused against Stuttgart. The midweek Europa League game against Slavia Prague, which they won 1-0, provides reason for optimism.

Offensive works

So far this season, only Bayern Munich have created more big chances than Eintracht Frankfurt. While the record champions have managed 35 of these opportunities, Eintracht have managed 32. Furthermore, only Mainz 05 (60%) have converted a higher percentage of their big chances than SGE (50%).

Two players in particular have been key to this effectiveness: Hugo Ekitiké and Omar Marmoush. The two offensive players for Eintracht are virtually shining under Dino Toppmöller and there seems to be no end in sight to this high. If Frankfurt can put the two of them in the limelight again, it could be very dangerous for the Stuttgart defense.

Frankfurt facts & analysis
  • Third place in the table
  • Last league game won 7-2 against Bochum
  • All defeats this season have come away from home

The game will see VfB Stuttgart field a 4-2-3-1 formation again. However, it is possible that Sebastian Hoeneß will make a few changes to the lineup due to the strain on the players. Demirovic could start in the front line for Toure and Rieder is an option on the wing, where Führich would then have to take a place on the bench.

Frankfurt will take to the pitch in a 4-4-2 formation. Dino Toppmöller will surely let Ekitiké play from the start again and Skhiri could start in the center for Dahoud. Otherwise, the same eleven will play as against Prague.

Stuttgart – Frankfurt head-to-head & statistics

The last encounter, which took place in April of this year, ended in a clear 3-0 home win for VfB.
