Southampton FC vs Manchester City
This weekend, England will host the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. With Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City the three best teams of the Premier League are still in it, all three want to enter the semifinals. Manchester City will have to travel to Southampton FC, who already upset the Citizens in the league a few weeks ago. Kick-off is at 16:00 on Sunday at St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton. You can find our prediction for this match in the following Southampton vs Man City tip.
In the Premier League, this duel would be a clear affair on paper. The visitors from Manchester have been leading the table for quite some time and have collected a whopping 70 points from 29 games. In recent weeks, however, the lead over Liverpool has shrunk to just one point due to several slip-ups. Southampton, on the other hand, are in a safe mid-table position in tenth place with 35 points. The Saints are running out of options both up and down the table, so the cup should provide a welcome change of pace.

Southampton form & balance check
Southampton FC have lost much of their original strong form in recent weeks. Starting with the strong one in the second leg against Manchester City, the Saints put together a run of seven consecutive unbeaten competitive games at the start of the year, including wins over Tottenham, Man United and West Ham. Most recently, however, they suffered three defeats in a row against weaker teams such as Newcastle and Watford. Against the relegation candidates from Watford, Southampton had to admit defeat with 1:2 last weekend.
Dream goals take Saints into quarterfinals
In the league, however, not too much is possible for Southampton anyway. It will be much more exciting in the cup, however, as the Saints join the seven other teams in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. In the cup season so far, the team has been able to beat Swansea City, Coventry City and West Ham United here. In the round of 16, the Saints beat the Hammers from London 3-1 thanks to two dream goals from Perraud and Broja and a penalty from captain Ward-Prowse.

This was followed by three wins in a row, but then two draws. In the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, the Skyblues only did what they had to do after their stunning victory in the first leg and drew 0-0 with Sporting Lisbon. City with three titles in their sights
Nevertheless, the Citizens still have their sights set on the treble. In the League Cup was already in the round of 16 end, but in all other competitions Manchester is still represented. In the FA Cup, the team has only played lower-class opponents Swindon Town, Fulham FC and Peterborough United. The round of 16 at Peterborough was just a few weeks ago, and the big favorites didn’t let themselves be upset here either, fulfilling their mandatory task relatively easily. Mahrez and Foden scored the goals in the 2-0 win.

Predicted lineup – last update on March 19, 2022
Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhüttl is likely to field his team in a 4-4-2 as usual.
