Sevilla Form & Balance Check
The midfield team had to play away against Europa League aspirants Athletic Bilbao on the last matchday. Sevilla were outplayed from the start and had nothing to counter Bilbao’s attacking soccer. Although they occasionally created half-chances, they were never really dangerous in the home side’s penalty area. Athletic Bilbao took a 2-0 lead with a double strike in the 17th and 19th minutes and FC had nothing to offer in reply.
Little changed after the break either. The game became more even in terms of possession, but Sevilla were unable to really do anything with the ball. The result was a 2-0 defeat, their 16th loss of the season.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have won just one and drawn one of their last five games, losing all of their last three. This puts them in 14th place in the form table and their recent poor results are also reflected in the overall table. With 41 points, they are in 13th place and have a comfortable gap to the bottom of the table, but they are also quite a way off the international places
Fearful opponent Barcelona
Whenever they face FC Barcelona at home, FC always seem to get a little nervous. Sevilla have won just one of their last 16 home games against the Catalans. This means they have only one win at home against Barça since 2007. With a goal difference of 17:34 from Sevilla’s point of view, this weak form against Barcelona is once again underlined
Sevilla facts & analysis
- 13th in the table
- Lost all of their last three games
- Won the last time at home against Barcelona in 2015
Barcelona Form & Balance Check
Barcelona faced Rayo Vallecano in their final home game of the season. Thanks to an early goal in the 3rd minute, the Catalans were able to open up their game from the start. After the goal, however, the game flattened out a little and was mainly characterized by many fouls. There were four yellow cards alone in the first half of a physical game. There were only scenes in the penalty area in the visitors’ half, but they were never really able to make an impact themselves.
After the break, Barça played with their usual dominance and looked to take the lead. This was to come with goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes, when Xavi’s team increased the lead to 3:0 in front of the home crowd. After that, they left nothing to chance and took the three points for the 25th time this season.
Overall, they are currently in very good form. They have won four of their last five games and only lost once against Girona. This puts them just behind Real Madrid in the form table, and the same picture can be seen in the overall table. The championship was decided some time ago and with a 14-point gap to the chasing pack, Barcelona will finish this season in second place
Away strength
Barcelona hardly seem to be affected by the fans of their opponents. They have been very stable in foreign stadiums so far. They have won ten of their 18 away games, drawn six and have only been beaten twice. They are therefore deservedly in second place in the away table and underline this away strength with a goal difference of 34:22.
Barcelona facts & analysis
- Second in the La Liga table
- Three wins in a row
- Outside table second place
Quique Sanchez Florez’s team will probably line up in a 3-4-2-1 again. Against an offensively stronger opponent, they will move into a back five against the ball in order to have the best possible defensive stability. However, they will be without captain Navas (thigh injury) for the upcoming match, with Sanchez moving to the wing. Of course, it is possible that the coach will rotate the squad in this game, as there is nothing at stake.
FC Barcelona will start in their usual 4-3-3. Xavi also has the option of making a few changes. Auraujo will probably move into central defense for Cubarsi, while it is questionable whether Pedri is fit enough to start. Ferran Torres and Joao Felix are still good options in attack
