Real Madrid vs. Villarreal CF
Just three days after their 6-1 win over RCD Mallorca, Real Madrid have their next home game in La Liga. This time, however, it should not be as clear-cut, as Villarreal are one of only five clubs in Spain’s top division that have not yet suffered a defeat. The match will kick off on Saturday evening at 21:00.
A look at the recent past also shows that another win for Real will be anything but easy. The last victory against Villarreal by more than two goals was more than five years ago. Since then, the Yellow Submarine has always given the Royals a run for their money. Find out whether we expect the same on Saturday and what other predictions we would make for this game in our Real vs Villarreal tip.

Real Madrid -Villarreal Tip
The hosts are currently leading the Spanish league table with 16 out of a possible 18 points and therefore go into the upcoming match as clear favourites. Villarreal, however, have not lost a game so far and have already taken a point from reigning champions Atletico Madrid, among others. Now, Unai Emery’s team will be looking for a win against the other top club from Madrid. With a win, the visitors could even move up to six places in the table.
Real Madrid Form & Balance Check
For the hosts, the 2021/22 season has largely gone according to plan so far. The 3-3 draw at Levante (Matchday 2) is the only stain on the otherwise white waistcoat of the royals after six matchdays. Karim Benzema & Co. have won all of the following four league games, the home games even clearly with 5:2 (vs. Celta Vigo) and 6:1 (vs. RCD Mallorca). Away from home, on the other hand, they had a somewhat more difficult time. After the 1:4 win at Alavaes on matchday 1, there was a 0:1 win at Real Betis and a 1:2 win at Valencia.
Happy opening day win in CL
In the Champions League group stage, Real also started with a win at Inter Milan, although in retrospect it was a somewhat lucky one. Especially in the first period, Inter missed numerous opportunities to score the opening goal. In the second period, however, the royals got better and better into the game, so that the late winning goal (89th) in the final phase did not come completely out of nowhere. After five wins in a row in competitive matches, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will now be looking for another win in the league on Saturday.
Real Madrid Facts & Analysis
16 points from 6 games
– Last win 6:1 against RCD Mallorca
– 21 goals in 6 league games
– Last won by more than a goal difference against Villarreal in 2016
Villarreal form & balance check
The visitors have not lost a single league game this season, but they have only managed one win. It has to be said, however, that unlike Real Madrid, the Yellow Submarine have only played five games, not six. Conversely, this means that Villarreal have shared the points in four of their five matches so far. Only against Elche last weekend (4-1) did they claim all three points, averting their fifth draw in their fifth game.
Kantersieg gegen Elche als Befreiungsschlag?
The victory against the fourth-last team in the pre-season, who just managed to stay in the league with two wins on the last two match days, did not necessarily come as a surprise. What did come as a surprise, however, was the number of goals Unai Emery’s team scored on the day. Villarreal had previously been held to goalless draws by Granada, Espanyol Barcelona and RCD Mallorca. Only the draw against champions Atletico Madrid (2-2) provided some entertainment. We can be curious to see whether the offensive will fall back into the old pattern in the coming weeks or continue to be successful.
Villarreal facts & Analysis
– 7 points from 5 games
– Last win 4:1 against Elche
– Only 3 goals conceded in 5 games
– Last away win at Bernabeu in January 2018 (0-1)
Predicted line-up – last update on 23 September 2021
For Real, some important players could return to the starting eleven for this tough game. We could imagine Luka Modric, Eden Hazard and Casemiro coming on compared to the 6-1 loss against Mallorca. Lucas Vazquez could also start in place of Rodrygo.
On the visitors’ side, we do not expect any changes after the 4-1 win against Elche. Villarreal have no injury problems at the moment.
