Manchester United – Chelsea
Our Man United v Chelsea tip is: Double chance: Man United/X & over 1.5 goals – 1.76 odds
- United are undefeated in their last 11 PL games against Chelsea at home
- Of United’s last seven home games, only one ended with under 1.5 goals
- United won 5-2 in the cup with interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, Chelsea lost 0-2
The Premier League will see the 161st Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea on Sunday evening. Both teams were still in action in the EFL Cup during the week. For Manchester United, it was the first game under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy. They were able to win confidently against PL rivals Leicester City with 5:2. However, van Nistelrooy will not be coaching the Reds for much longer, because the successor to Ten Haag has already been determined.
Rúben Amorim is the new Manchester United manager. The Portuguese coach comes from the current league leaders Sporting Lisbon and has signed a contract until June 2027, with the option of an additional season. His official start at United is November 11, and the club will pay a fixed transfer fee of €10 million, which is regulated by an escape clause in Amorim’s contract with Sporting.
The Blues, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle in the league earlier this week, after losing 2-0 to Newcastle in the cup. Manchester United have the chance to win three games in a row against the Blues at Old Trafford for the first time since 1957 in today’s game. You can find out whether that is likely in our Man United – Chelsea tip.

Man United Form & Bilanz Check
Manchester United have not been beaten in their last 11 league games at home to Chelsea, picking up five wins and six draws in the process, giving them a strong home record against the Blues. The eleven points after nine matches in the Premier League is the second-worst season at this point, only 2019/20 was worse. Coach Erik ten Hag has also lost 32% of his Premier League matches as United manager. It’s no wonder that he was forced out of his job after the last league defeat to West Ham.
Lack of offense despite many chances
One of the Reds’ current problems is their weak offense, with only eight goals scored this season – that’s 6.8 fewer than their expected value (xG of 14.8). Only Southampton and Crystal Palace have scored fewer goals than United in the current Premier League season.
Man United facts & analysis
- Eleven home games unbeaten against Chelsea
- Second-worst start to the season
- Van Nistelrooy as the new hope for the time being
Chelsea form & record check
Enzo Maresca is currently relying entirely on young players at Chelsea. On average, Chelsea play with the youngest team in the league – 23 years, 206 days. In last week’s 2-1 triumph over Newcastle, the Blues were only the second team in PL history not to have a player aged 25 or over in their starting lineup – the first were Aston Villa in 2013.
The Blues are currently in a very good fifth place in the table and have 17 points after nine games. They are currently just one point behind Arsenal in third place and still have all chances to make it back into the Champions League this year. They have also scored 19 goals – the second highest league value after Man City.
MVP Cole Palmer
Cole Palmer over and over again. The lad is in absolutely scintillating form for the Blues and also scored against Newcastle in the league last week. In 2024, he was directly involved in 33 PL goals for Chelsea, scoring 21 and assisting twelve. Only two players have made more goal contributions for the Blues in a calendar year: Hasselbank in 2001 with 36 and Drogba in 2010 with 35.
Palmer scored in both of their last two pre-season games against United, bagging a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge. Only two players have scored in three consecutive games against the Red Devils – Hasselbank in 2000/01 and Juan Mata in 2012/13.
Chelsea facts & analysis
- Least experienced starting XI in the league
- Second most prolific attack in the league
- Palmer in red-hot form
Man United interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy did not change the system after the dismissal of Ten Haag. He also continues to rely on a 4-2-3-1 system. The Red Devils will hope to be able to take another win at Old Trafford after their debut win in the cup. Injured players for Manchester are Tyrell Malacia (knee injury) and Daniel Gore (shoulder injury).
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca also continues to use the 4-2-3-1 system. After he had completely rotated during the week in the cup, which of course lends itself to this huge squad, we should see the usual first team against United again at the weekend. There are currently no known absentees from the Blues.
