One team in this category is Liverpool FC. The Reds made an impressive start under Arne Slot, but now have a very tough task ahead of them. They travel away to Old Trafford, where they will face Manchester United. The hosts currently have just three points from two matches and will certainly have had a different start to the season. They need this home win if they are not to lose touch at the top.

The upcoming match promises to be very exciting. Who do you think will come out on top? Let us know in the comments below

Man United Form & Balance Check

Manchester United have tried a number of things to get back on track after last season. After missing out on qualifying for European soccer last year, they now want to do everything they can to achieve this goal. However, just like last season, their start to the season has been very mixed.

While they narrowly won 1-0 at home against Fulham in their first league game, they suffered their first defeat a week later. They lost 2-1 to Brighton late on and are now in tenth place with three points from two games. Liverpool FC, one of the title contenders, now await them

Bad month?

Since the retirement of legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have lost 13 of their 35 Premier League games in September. Since 2013/14, they have only conceded more defeats in the month of May (15 in total). That is more defeats than they suffered in the entire 76 September games under Ferguson. Back then, they won 45, drew 19 and were only beaten 12 times

Man United facts & analysis
  • Tenth place in the table
  • Last game lost 1-2
  • Last home game against Liverpool 2-2

Liverpool Form & Balance Check

Liverpool are looking to attack again this year. Last season, they could not quite keep up with the pace of Manchester City and Arsenal and had to give up the fight for the championship in recent weeks. This season, under new Dutch coach Arne Slot, they want to play for the title again.

And that is working very well at the moment. In their opening game, they won 2:0 away against newly promoted Ipswich and in their second game of the season they won 2:0 at home against Brentford. They are one of four teams to have won all of their games so far.

Manchester curse?

This is Arne Slot’s first game as the new Liverpool coach against Manchester United. None of the Reds’ last nine managers have won their first league game against Man United. The last time Bob Paisley achieved this feat was in November 1975, when Liverpool won 3-1 at home.

George Kay is still the only Liverpool coach to win his first away league game with the Red Devils. In 1936, he won 5-2 at Old Trafford. Arne Slot is aiming to become the first manager in almost 90 years to win away from home in his first clash with Man United

Liverpool facts & analysis
  • Two wins from the last two games
  • Third place in the table
  • Last game 2:0

Manchester United will probably start again in a classic 4-2-3-1 under Erik ten Hag. The coach will still have to do without center forward Hojlund, with Fernandes playing up front in his place, but Zirkzee is also an option. Garnacho has impressed with good performances since coming on and will probably be preferred to Rashford or Diallo.

Liverpool will also stick to their previous system. They will line up in a 4-3-3, a formation that worked well last year. In terms of personnel, everything will probably remain the same as in the last game for the time being. Whether new signing Chiesa will play a role is questionable
