Manchester United vs. Chelsea FC
This coming Thursday evening we can look forward to another very interesting football match besides the semi-final matches in the Europa and Conference League. In the early 37th matchday of the Premier League, the Red Devils of Manchester United will host Chelsea FC. Kick-off is at Old Trafford at 20:45.
The match will be played early on Thursday, as Chelsea FC will play the FA Cup Final against Liverpool FC on the weekend of Matchday 37. The Reds, however, will have to make up their league game in another week, as they already have the Champions League semi-final against Villarreal FC ahead of them on Wednesday (for Liverpool vs Villarreal betting tip).
The three points on Thursday would actually only be particularly important for the hosts, who want to keep their small chance of Champions League qualification alive with a win against Chelsea. The Blues, on the other hand, can take a relatively relaxed approach to the end of the season, given their seven-point lead over fifth place. Whether we think they have the advantage at Old Trafford and what we think about this game is revealed in our Man United vs Chelsea tip.

Man United Form & Balance Check
Manchester United’s form curve continues to point downwards. After the bitter 0-4 defeat at the home of Liverpool FC, the Red Devils also suffered a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal FC last Saturday. This was already the third defeat in the Premier League in the last four games. Before that, CR7 & Co. lost 0:1 at Everton FC, before they managed to win against Norwich City (3:2). Now the next extremely tough nut awaits them in the form of Chelsea FC.
Look to the bottom
In the fight for the Champions League places, the latest results have been extreme setbacks. United are currently six points off fourth place in the table and have already played one game more than their direct rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. In view of their current form, however, Ralf Rangnick’s team should look down the table and be careful not to miss out on qualification for the Europa or Conference League. West Ham United (52 points) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (49 points with one game less) are breathing down United’s necks (54 points).
Man United facts & analysis
– 54 points from 34 games
– Last lost 1:3 at Arsenal
– Only 1 win from last 5 league games
– None of last 4 duels with Chelsea won (3U, 1N)
Chelsea form & balance check
The visitors from London, on the other hand, can take a much more relaxed approach to the final spurt of the 2021/22 season. A Champions League place should be as good as certain given their seven-point lead over fifth place (with one game less). The season should therefore not be written off yet, but the focus will slowly but surely turn to the FA Cup final on 14 May, where the Blues will have to overcome an extremely tough last hurdle in the form of Liverpool FC. For the 9th time in the club’s history, Chelsea could be crowned winners of the oldest football trophy in the world.
Blues in April with ups and downs
The current form is by no means bad, but nevertheless there have been games in the last weeks and months in which the usually so stable defence has not exactly made the best impression. It started with the 1:4 defeat against Brentford on 2 April, continued with the 1:3 home defeat against Real Madrid and ended recently with the 2:4 defeat against FC Arsenal. It has usually taken ten games or more under Thomas Tuchel to concede this number of goals. However, with the 6-0 away win at Southampton, the 2-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Crystal Palace or the recent 1-0 home win against West Ham, there have been successful games in April.
Chelsea facts & analysis
– 65 points from 32 games
– Last won 1-0 against West Ham
– Last 5 league games: S-N-S-N-S
– None of last 8 PL away games won at United
Predicted line-up – last update on 26 April 2022
For United, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani are out. There is still a question mark over Fred’s fitness. There should be no big surprises in the starting eleven. We expect Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford to play on the flanks and CR7 to start up front.
The Blues will definitely have to do without Mateo Kovacic, Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi. There is still a question mark behind Reece James. Antonio Rüdiger, who is willing to change, and Andreas Christensen, on the other hand, should be available again against Manchester United. We expect Chelsea to play in a 3-4-1-2 with the German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz up front.
