FSV Mainz vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
Everything is set for the World Cup in Qatar. Especially for Mario Götze, who played his way back into DFB coach Hansi Flick’s squad with very good performances for Eintracht Frankfurt. But before the attacking midfielder travels to the World Cup for our nation, the 30-year-old still has to complete an everyday task in the Bundesliga. Götze will play with the SGE in Mainz on Sunday and wants to continue to make a splash. Coach Oliver Glasner’s team qualified for the last 16 of the top flight and are just one point off 2nd place in the table thanks to their 4-2 home win over TSG Hoffenheim last Wednesday night. This excellent run should continue.
Mainz 05, on the other hand, lost 0:1 at Schalke on Wednesday evening, completely deserved, and thus lost their third game in a row. The Nullfünfer performed above their level for a long time, which is confirmed by the defeat in Gelsenkirchen. Coach Bo Svensson’s team is sliding further and further down the table and therefore wants to avoid another defeat. Whether FSV will score again against the SGE, you can read in our Mainz – Frankfurt betting tip.

Mainz Form & Balance Check
There is no doubt that 1. FSV Mainz 05 are on a downward spiral. Together with Hertha BSC, the zero-fives are the only team to have conceded three defeats in a row. How fortunate that coach Svensson’s team took seven points from three games before the defeats to Bayern, Wolfsburg and Schalke and can therefore cope with the recent negative streak.
After the 1-1 draw against Leipzig, FSV won 2-0 against Bremen and even 5-1 against 1. FC Köln, but Mainz have been absolutely inconsistent and performed above their actual capabilities for long stretches this season. In the defeat in Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday, Mainz only managed a single shot on goal and that at the bottom of the table, who have lost eight games in a row.
FSV with inconsistent game time
It is quite surprising why Mainz are able to score five goals against Cologne and even score twice at Bayern, but then fail to score against Wolfsburg and Schalke. After the recent defeats, there are two defeats in a row on the record in which the Nullfünfer did not score. The 0:3 in the last home match against VfL Wolfsburg was FSV’s first match since the 0:3 defeat on matchday 4 against Leverkusen in which Svensson’s team did not score. With 18 goals in 14 games, Mainz scored fewer goals than Leverkusen and Cologne, but took more points than both clubs mentioned.
Mainz facts & analysis
– Mainz are 11th in the table with 18 points.
– FSV lost three games in a row (2:6, 0:3 and 0:1)
– The Nullfünfer are in 17th place in the home table
Frankfurt form & balance check
With a view to the upcoming opponents, SGE coach Oliver Glasner certainly knows that Mainz have only picked up six points at home and are the second-worst home team of the current season with this yield. The Austrian also knows how to exploit this weakness, as his team is the third strongest visiting team of the current season. Frankfurt have already picked up 13 of a possible 18 points away from home. Only Bayern and Freiburg have taken one more point away from home, but they have also played one more game.
It’s not just the away record that is outstanding for Eintracht at the moment. Overall, almost everything is going right for Frankfurt at the moment. With the 4:2 home win over Hoffenheim on Wednesday, the SGE recorded the fourth win from the last five Bundesliga games and thus shot up to 4th place.
Kolo Muani unstoppable
A key pillar of their success has been the signing of Randal Kolo Muani. The Frenchman is currently the top scorer in the Bundesliga. In fact, the 23-year-old has only scored four times, but Frankfurt’s No. 9 put in a whole nine goals. Kolo Muani is the dominant player in the Main’s offensive. Frankfurt have won seven of their last eight competitive matches and scored a total of 21 goals in these victories. That makes an average of 2.62 goals per game from these games alone. In fact, the 2-1 home defeat to BVB is the only one of the last eight competitive games in which the SGE did not score at least twice, although the chances were undoubtedly there.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– Frankfurt are in 4th place in the table with 26 points.
– The SGE won three games in a row in the Bundesliga
– Eintracht have won seven of their last eight competitive matches
Predicted line-up – last update on 11 November 2022
Coach Svensson will also have to continue to do without Leitsch, who is suffering from fatigue symptoms, in the last match before the winter break. In addition, Mustapha is out due to a muscle bruise in his thigh. Despite the continuing series of defeats, the Nullfünfer will continue to rely on the usual 3-4-3 system with high wing-backs. Lee will probably replace Burkardt, who was very disappointing at Schalke.
On the SGE side, Hasebe (torn knee ligament), Lenz (fascia injury in the thigh) and Buta (knee injury) are out injured. As against Hoffenheim, Eintracht’s game will focus primarily on striker Kolo Muani, whom hardly any team can defend at the moment. The Frenchman lives on balls, played by Lindström and Götze, who operate behind him. Systematically, Oliver Glasner sends his team onto the pitch in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
