FSV Mainz 05 – Borussia Dortmund
Our Mainz – Dortmund tip is: Less than 3.5 goals – 1.54 odds
- Mainz won the last home game against Dortmund 3-0
- In none of Mainz’s league home games this season have there been more than three goals
- Dortmund has never scored more than once in an away league game
On Saturday at noon, FSV Mainz 05 will face Borussia Dortmund in the Mewa Arena in the Bundesliga. In terms of the table, this duel is 13th place receiving fifth place. FSV is undefeated in their last three Bundesliga duels against Dortmund – a streak that began with a 2-2 draw on Matchday 34 of the 2022/23 season, when Mainz ended Dortmund’s championship dreams. After their 3-0 home win in the last duel, Mainz could win two Bundesliga duels in a row against BVB for the first time.
The Mainzers have not won in the last four games. In the last Bundesliga game, they fought hard for a goalless draw in Freiburg. During the week, there was a 0-4 DFB Cup defeat against the record champions from Munich. They currently scored as many goals in the last home game against Dortmund as in all six home games this season, three each.
Dortmund have won two competitive games in a row. In the Champions League, they won narrowly 1-0 against Sturm Graz in the week. In the league, they recently had a 2-1 home win in the top game against RB Leipzig, which means that Dortmund are still without a point at home. While Mainz are currently struggling in home games, BVB are struggling away from home. Our Mainz v Dortmund betting tip will let you know who ends their winless streak first.

Mainz Form & Bilanz Check
1. FSV Mainz 05 have not won in three Bundesliga games and only got two out of a possible nine points. It is the longest dry spell for the Rhine Hessians in the top flight under the management of Bo Henriksen – the 05ers previously went longer without a Bundesliga win in the last eleven games under Jan Siewert in 2023/24, drawing six and losing five.
FSV are without a home win in their first five Bundesliga matches this season; the only other time they have started a season with fewer home wins was in 2020/21, when they had nine. Across the league this season, only Bochum have picked up fewer points than Mainz at home.

Dortmund form & balance check
Borussia Dortmund have won each of their five home games in the current Bundesliga season, but are still without a win in four away games. If that continues against Mainz, BVB would be only the second team in this millennium to experience this at the start of a Bundesliga season. The last team to do so was Gladbach in 2013/14, who won five home games and went five games without a win away from home – the last time this happened to BVB was in 1967/68.
Since the start of last Bundesliga season, only Harry Kane scored more goals than Guirassy, 47 to 33. Currently, Guirassy is just two goals away from his 50th Bundesliga goal – he has already scored five times against Mainz in this competition, only Wolfsburg have scored more (six times).
BVB is struggling with injuries
After a long list of injuries and the suspension of Bensebaini in the last game, things are getting tricky in the Dortmund defense. In goal, Gregor Kobel is still out for BVB and will be replaced by Meyer. After Pascal Groß was the first to be pulled back into defense to fill the right back position, Gittens could be the next to be pulled into defense. BVB are running out of defenders: Julian Ryerson is missing due to adductor problems, and new signing Yan Couto is out with a muscle injury. In central defense, Waldemar Anton and Niklas Süle are still missing. The offense at BVB is reasonably stable with Beier Adeyemis filling the wing position.
However, Nuri Şahin has recently expressed confidence that he will be able to call on Julian Ryerson and Yan Cauto again. There are also positive signs regarding Waldemar Anton. It will be interesting to see which back four the Black & Yellow field this weekend.
Dortmund Facts & Analysis

- Last away game in Mainz 0:3 lost
The FSV will return to the classic 3-4-2-1 system under the leadership of Bo Henriksen. We will again see the Dortmund team, managed by Nuri Şahin, in a 4-2-3-1 system. The personnel in the back four remains completely open. In attack, Sahin can rely on his striker Guirassy.
