Both teams are currently playing football with varying degrees of success and you can find out who has the edge here in our Mainz – Bremen tip.

Looking at the table, it quickly becomes clear who is the favourite in the upcoming match. Mainz have not lost in weeks and FSV also put an exclamation mark on the last matchday. Mainz won 3-0 in Leipzig, while their next opponents, Bremen, were beaten 2-1 by Hoffenheim in front of their own fans. Thus, the promoted team has been waiting for a win for four games now.

Mainz Form & Balance Check

We honestly didn’t think Mainz would have such a season. Coach Bo Svensson’s team has not lost in seven games. No other Bundesliga team currently has a longer unbeaten streak. After four wins in a row, Mainz had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Hertha and Freiburg.

Even before the clash in Leipzig, many fans of the 05ers feared that nothing more than a draw would be possible. However, the Mainz side proved to be incredibly cool and mercilessly effective in front of goal. Striker Ajorque was the main culprit with his magic goal to open the scoring at 1:0. The Frenchman has already scored four goals in his first ten games in the tournament.

Target of the season already achieved

Before the season, it was clearly stated that the big goal was to stay in the league. With their 40 points, Mainz have already achieved this goal with eight matchdays to go. If Mainz can keep their streak alive against Bremen, then they have every right to hope for a place in the Europa League.

At present, the gap to Eintracht Frankfurt is only one point. The 05ers’ rise in form is mainly due to their ability to score in front of the opponent’s goal. Mainz have already scored 22 times in the second half of the season, one more than in the entire first half. In addition, coach Svensson’s team has the second-best scoring efficiency (+6.2) after FC Bayern.

Mainz facts & analysis

 – 5 wins from last 7 matches.
 – Last win 3:0 in Leipzig
 – No defeat for 7 games

Bremen form & balance check

The Green-Whites from Bremen are not going through an easy time at the moment. Werder have been waiting for a win for four games now and the last game against Hoffenheim in particular made it clear that the promoted team is a little bit out of sorts at the moment. Bremen certainly didn’t put in a bad performance against TSG, but in the end it was once again defensive laxity that robbed the men from the Weser of their deserved reward.

With regard to the duel against Mainz, the promoted team does not need to have particularly high hopes of a victory. Werder have lost four of their last five games against the 05ers. In the first leg, Bremen suffered a 2-0 defeat.

All eyes on Füllkrug

For Werder, everything stands and falls with the offensive. As is well known, this consists of Marvin Ducksch and Niclas Füllkrug. Both are elementarily important for the promoted team and this is also reflected in the statistics of the two offensive players. Füllkrug, with 15 goals, is at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts, and his congenial partner Ducksch is in no way inferior with 14 goals.

However, Werder fans must take every opportunity to see this duo play live once again. Only a few days ago it leaked out that Füllkrug wants to leave Werder next summer. If a decent transfer fee is paid, Werder will probably also sell their striker.

Bremen facts & analysis

 – Without a win for 4 games
 – Last lost 1:2 against Hoffenheim
 – Currently in 11th place

Predicted lineup – last update on 6 April 2023

A lot is going on its own for Mainz at the moment. Coach Bo Svensson will therefore not make any major changes compared to the 3-0 in Leipzig. Mainz are likely to start in a 3-4-2-1 again. Stach, Ingvartsen and Ajorque should again pose problems for the Bremen defence. Should Svensson go for the more defensive option, Stach could move to the six for Barreiro and Onisiwo could start on the ten.

Bremen are looking for a win after four games in a row without a victory. Coach Werner is likely to go with the usual 3-5-2. Füllkrug and Ducksch are expected to provide the goals.
