Liverpool FC vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
The new season is progressing at a rapid pace and the seventh matchday in the Premier League awaits us next weekend. A lot has already happened in England’s highest division. One team that has so far fallen short of its own expectations is Liverpool FC. Jürgen Klopp’s team lost to Man United, among others, and did not win the games against Fulham and Crystal Palace. As a result, the Reds are on just nine points after six games.
Wolverhampton also fluffed their start to the season. Wolves failed to win any of their first five games, then picked up their first points against Southampton on the last matchday. This gave them some breathing space in the relegation battle, but they were not yet convincing in terms of play. Now they meet one of the big opponents of the last years. Find out who we think will win in this Liverpool – Wolverhampton tip

Liverpool Form & Balance Check
While other teams in a similarly precarious situation have already changed coaches, Liverpool are sticking with Jürgen Klopp. Anything else would make no sense, because the German has shaped the Reds into one of the best teams in the world in recent years. Nevertheless, the start is anything but optimal. The negative highlight, however, was the defeat during the week against Napoli, because the defence in particular was incredibly patchy. LFC was already 4-0 down after 47 minutes. As a result, the start to the Champions League has more than failed and the Reds need to think of something quickly.
Unusual defensive weaknesses
Actually, the defence has been Liverpool’s showpiece in recent years, but this year the stability has been lacking in almost every game. Even in the 0-0 draw against Everton, the back line was anything but secure, and was able to thank its goalkeeper on several occasions for not conceding a goal. But the cornerstone of the last few seasons, Virgil van Dijk, is causing the most concern. The Dutchman seems unaccustomedly unstable and is unable to provide any security for his team-mates. The other defensive players are also far from their normal form. If Liverpool are to live up to their own expectations, everyone will have to step up their game.
Liverpool facts & analysis
– It is the weakest start to a season under Jürgen Klopp.
– Mo Salah has not scored in six competitive games
– So far Liverpool have taken seven of the nine points at home
Wolverhampton form & balance check
It’s not been an easy year for Wolves, with the team searching a little for their own identity since the departure of coach Nuno Espirito Santo. Back then they played intense football, even reaching European competition under the Portuguese. Now Wolverhampton are finding it extremely difficult to develop forward pressure. They scored only three goals in the first six matchdays, the fewest of any team in England. Sasa Kalajdzic was supposed to fix this problem, but the newcomer suffered a serious injury in his first match.
Relegation fight to the end?
In the last two years, Wolverhampton finished the season in double figures in the table. Also this season, the start was far from optimal, but at least they now got their first win of the season. Nevertheless, despite many new arrivals, the game looks anything but pressure-filled. In three out of six games, they did not score a goal, in the others only one. If the Wolves don’t get a grip on these problems, then it could be a very difficult season with a lot of struggle and cramp.
Wolverhampton facts & analysis
– They signed five players in the summer for at least €15 million.
– They have not conceded a goal in their last two games
– Wolves are still winless away from home this season
Predicted line-up – last update on 8 September 2022
It is very likely that Klopp will rotate several times after the embarrassment in Naples. Matip comes in at the back for Gomez, who played desolately. In midfield, Thiago could celebrate his return, LFC can make good use of the Spaniard’s ball security. Darwin Núñez is also likely to start again as a central striker. Wolves are likely to make only one change after the 1-0 win over Saints. Kalajdzic is out for a long time and Portuguese Guedes is likely to start in his place.
Liverpool – Wolverhampton direct comparison & stats
The overall direct comparison doesn’t look that clear-cut, as in 102 encounters, Liverpool won 55 times and Wolves walked away victorious in 30 games. In recent years, however, the matter has gone very clearly per Liverpool.
– Liverpool have won every game against Wolves under Jürgen Klopp.
– Liverpool have won all of their last eleven Premier League encounters.
– The Reds have won seven of their last nine games against Wolverhampton
