FC Liverpool – Sheffield United

The championship race is also entering the decisive phase on the island. This year’s Premier League is more exciting than it has been for a long time, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City in a three-way battle for the top spot. Matchday 31 takes place this week and the Reds host Sheffield United at Anfield Stadium on Thursday. Find out in our Liverpool – Sheffield betting tip whether Liverpool will live up to their role as favorites or whether Sheffield will take something worthwhile from the Reds.

Liverpool defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 2:1 on Easter Sunday and benefited from the direct clash between their two rivals Arsenal and Man City, who shared the points. This allowed them to climb back to the top of the table for the time being, but they must not allow themselves to slip up against Sheffield

Sheffield, on the other hand, are bottom of the league and have little chance of staying in the English top flight. Even though they picked up at least a point against Fulham FC last weekend, they are still a long way off the safety margin.

Liverpool Form & Balance Check

The team of coach Jürgen Klopp is playing a great Premier League season and has only suffered two defeats in perhaps the best league in Europe. The team is currently top of the table with 67 points, two points ahead of Arsenal and three points ahead of Man City. Two weeks ago, however, the Reds were beaten by Man United in the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Their record in the last five games is three wins, one draw and one defeat. The championship is in their own hands and the team will do everything they can to give Klopp the Premier League title as a farewell gift

Salah gives Klopp an anniversary win

Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s 2-1 winner last weekend to put the Reds back top of the table. The Egyptian scored for the third game in a row and now has a total of 16 goals and nine assists in the league. With this goal, Salah also gave his manager his 300th win for Liverpool.

From a total of 478 competitive matches with the Reds, Klopp now has a remarkable win rate of just under 63%. Ideally, there will be a few more by the end of the season, both in the league and in the Europa League, in order to lift at least one trophy at the end of the season

Liverpool facts & analysis
  • First place in the table
  • Last game won 2:1
  • Five wins from the last six league games

Sheffield Form & Balance Check

The bottom team in the Premier League has its back to the wall. With only 15 points collected, Sheffield are already seven points behind a non-relegation place and it would take a minor miracle for them to stay up.

The team coached by Chris Wilder have picked up just two points from their last five games and have only won three games in the league. They are the clear underdogs against Liverpool and the 2-0 defeat to the Reds in the first leg left them with nothing to play for

Shooting gallery of the league

The main problem is the team’s sometimes catastrophic defensive behavior. With 77 goals conceded and a goal difference of -50, they are by far the worst defensive team in the league. Recent games also offer little hope, with the team conceding 17 goals in their last five games, including a 5-0 and a 6-0 defeat.

They have conceded just one goal in the league this season, a 1-0 win over Brentford on matchday 16. It is unlikely that things will improve against Liverpool, as the Reds have the second-best offense in England with 67 goals scored

Sheffield Facts & Analysis
  • 20th place in the table
  • Last two draws
  • Baddest defense in the league

Liverpool play in a classic 4-3-3 and youngster Conor Bradley seems to have settled into the starting eleven on the right side of defense. Compared to the last game against Brighton, we expect few changes, but Klopp could rotate a little in attack and give Cody Gakpo another chance from the start. Wataru Endō and Alexis Mac Allister will continue to form the center.

We also expect Sheffield to adopt a similar formation to the one used against Fulham. The 3-5-2 formation will form a back five in defense with Jayden Bogle and Ben Osborn on the flanks. Oliver McBurnie and Ben Brereton Diaz, who both scored recently, are set to play up front. U21 international James McAtee is also available as a midfield option

Liverpool – Sheffield head-to-head & stats

Liverpool and Sheffield share a long history, having played each other 115 times. In addition to 113 Premier League games, there were also two duels in the League Cup in the early 2000s. Liverpool have won the last six games and Sheffield Wednesday’s last victory came eleven years ago. Overall, Liverpool lead the head-to-head with 55 wins to 33. The historic 1st meeting was in 1894, when the teams shared the points and the game ended 2-2.
