Liverpool FC vs. Newcastle United
This week we can expect a highly interesting match from the Premier League. Liverpool FC will host Newcastle United next Thursday, 16/12. Liverpool, how could it be otherwise, go into the match as favourites. The Reds are in excellent form and are currently second in the table behind Manchester City. The two giants of English football are separated by just one point with the same number of games played.
Liverpool’s upcoming opponents, Newcastle United, are currently fighting against relegation. The Magpies are second to last and have managed to pick up just ten points in their first 16 league games. The ambitious club is, however, much better in terms of quality than their position in the table would suggest. That’s why we believe they will have a great fight on their hands with LFC. Liverpool Form & Balance Check
Liverpool FC are in outstanding form. LFC have won their last seven inter-competitive matches. It was particularly impressive that Liverpool, with virtually their second-guard, were the better team for 90 minutes against AC Milan at the San Siro. It was clear to see that coach Jürgen Klopp has a very wide squad and even the substitutes understood the German coach’s playing philosophy perfectly. Liverpool’s form curve is pointing steeply upwards in light of their recent victories.
By far the best offence in the league
Liverpool not only have the third best defence in their ranks: The team from the north of England scored an incredible 45 goals in their first 16 league games. They have even scored seven goals more than the second best offence (Chelsea FC). We think they will also show some offensive power in the upcoming game against the Magpies. Salah has scored an incredible 14 goals this league season, making him Liverpool FC’s top scorer. He could make all the difference next Thursday.
Liverpool facts & analysis
– Liverpool currently occupy second place in the table.
– The Reds have the best attack in their ranks
– Salah is the top scorer with 14 goals
Newcastle form & balance check
Newcastle United are in poor form given their disastrous 4-0 defeat to Leicester City in their last Premier League fixture. The encouraging 1-0 win over Burnley FC was undone by the shoot-out against Leicester City. The Magpies had more possession (53 per cent) and fired four more shots than Leicester City, but still lacked efficiency, allowing Leicester to win 4-0 with just five shots on goal.
Best defence in the league
Newcastle United haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory of late. The Magpies conceded an incredible 34 goals in their first 16 league games. They’ve even conceded two more goals than bottom of the table Norwich City. Therefore, we believe the Reds will score a goal or two at Anfield Road. Newcastle are anything but solid at the moment and have just one win in the league so far.
Newcastle facts & analysis
– They are currently in 19th place in the table.
– Newcastle United have the worst defence in their ranks
– The Magpies lost their last game 4-0 against Leicester City
Predicted line-up – last update on 15 December 2021
Liverpool FC will certainly operate in their usual 4-3-3 formation again. We think Liverpool will only make one starting eleven change compared to the last league game. Jota could move into the forward line in place of Oxlade-Chamberlain.
We suspect that Magpies manager Eddie Howe will give his side a second chance and ultimately make no starting changes. Newcastle United currently operate in a compact 4-4-2 formation which should condense the centre.
Liverpool vs Newcastle direct comparison & stats
Liverpool have won ten of their last 20 direct duels. Six encounters ended in a draw and only four games were won by the Magpies. We think Liverpool will celebrate a fairly clear victory at Anfield Road given their current form. However, Jürgen Klopp’s legionnaires have failed to shine in their last two encounters against Newcastle.
– The last two duels ended in a draw
– Liverpool have not lost any of their last nine duels against Newcastle
– Newcastle have won only one game in the league so far
