Liverpool FC vs. Leicester City

After using the past weekend in England for the cup competitions, the Premier League finally continues during the week. From Tuesday to Thursday, the 24th matchday will be played, with one game in particular. On Thursday, Liverpool FC and Leicester City will meet at 20:45, which promises to be an exciting duel. Our prediction for this match can be found in the following Liverpool vs Leicester tip.

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League with 48 points. From the original three-way battle for the title, league leader Manchester City has now been able to pull clear, the Citizens have a whole nine points lead over the Reds with one game more. Leicester, on the other hand, have slipped a little recently and are now only in tenth place with 26 points. The Foxes have lost touch with the international places due to a weak phase and are therefore now bobbing around in no-man’s land in the table.

Liverpool Form & Balance Check

Liverpool FC are once again in strong form. The Reds have been unbeaten for seven games, five of which they have won. During this period, they also played against strong opponents such as Chelsea and Arsenal. The last defeat came shortly after Christmas against Leicester, of all teams, who took the points from Jürgen Klopp’s team in the league thanks to a goal by Lookman and an outstanding Kasper Schmeichel. Liverpool quickly got back on track, however, and have responded with a strong series.

Salah and Mané ahead of return

The Africa Cup final should have been watched with delight by every Liverpool fan. Sadio Mané and Mo Salah faced off with Senegal and Egypt, with the better end for the Senegalese. Mané scored the decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out, denying his teammate the all-important title. But now both are returning to Liverpool and must pull together to reunite the dream duo in Liverpool’s attack. It is possible that this could be the case on Thursday, although a longer breather is also conceivable.

Liverpool facts & analysis
 – 2nd place in the Premier League
 – Last win in the F.A. Cup 3:1 against Cardiff
 – Unbeaten in 7 competitive matches

Leicester form & balance check

The Foxes are currently in a slump of form. Coach Brendan Rodgers’ team has only managed three wins from eleven competitive matches since the beginning of December, with various corona-related cancellations causing a lack of rhythm in between. As a result, the surprise champions of 2016 have slipped to tenth place in the league, and qualification for the Europa League is becoming ever more remote. Now they face a tough task in Liverpool to get out of this performance hole, but at least Leicester won their last meeting with the Reds.

Nottingham also knock out Leicester

Last weekend, however, Leicester suffered another setback. In the fourth round of the FA Cup, the reigning title holders went to second division side Nottingham Forest. They had already knocked out Arsenal in the previous round, so Leicester should have been forewarned. But the Foxes, too, fell victim to the favourites, who celebrated a furious and sensational 4:1 victory. Leicester have thus ruined another chance of international football next season.

Leicester facts & analysis
 – 10th place in the Premier League
 – Last lost 1:4 in the F.A. Cup at Nottingham Forest
 – Only 3 wins from last 11 competitive matches

Predicted line-up – last update on 8 Feb 2022

Both teams are expected to field their top eleven on Thursday after one or two regulars were given a rest in the cup at the weekend. For Liverpool, Konate, Jones, Milner, Keita and Minamino are further options, and ideally Mané and Salah as well. If both are still out, new signing Luis Diaz could make his starting debut. The Foxes are missing key players with the injured Vardy, Evans and Fofana, with Barnes, Lookman, Vestergaard, Justin and Dewsbury-Hall other alternatives for the starting eleven should Rodgers want to make more changes after the disappointment against Nottingham.
