Liverpool FC vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
For Brighton & Hove Albion, the international break came just in time. The Seagulls lost their coach Graham Potter to Chelsea ahead of the Nations League. After all, the southerners collected over 17 million euros in transfer fees for their now ex-manager. The break gave the Seagulls’ management enough time to find a successor.
Brighton found one in Roberto De Zerbi, who most recently coached Shakhtar Donetsk. The Italian is highly praised for his work in Italy with Sassuolo. The 43-year-old follows a similar approach to the game as Potter, which is why many experts believe the Italian is the right solution. In his first appearance in the Premier League as Brighton’s new coach, De Zerbi will face a real challenge.
Liverpool FC will welcome the Seagulls to Anfield Road and hope that Brighton do not benefit from the famous coach effect. The Reds are gradually extricating themselves from a crisis that cannot be downplayed. Coach Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten in three games but played out only 0-0 draws in the Merseyside derby before the Queen’s death and the interruption due to internationals. Against the Seagulls, Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways. What we expect from this interesting duel, you can read in our Liverpool – Brighton tip.

Liverpool Form & Balance Check
Before the international break, Liverpool FC failed to build on their two wins against Bournemouth and Newcastle United. In the derby on the blue side of Merseyside at Everton FC, the Reds only played out a 0-0 draw. To that end, this draw was another step backwards as the Toffees almost won and only VAR prevented LFC from losing. Nevertheless, Jürgen Klopp’s team is thus unbeaten for three games in the Premier League and lost only one of the last five games. Against Brighton, Liverpool can look forward to the return of several players who were previously out injured.
Offensive faltering
One reason why the Reds have only collected nine points is surely the fact that LFC often conceded 0:1 and thus always had to come back from behind. In addition, Liverpool have massive offensive problems this season. If the 9-0 win over Bournemouth is disregarded, Jürgen Klopp’s team has only scored six goals in five games. Last season, the Reds scored 94 goals, or 2.5 per game. Currently, the team from Anfield Road is also at that average, but only because of the nine goals against Bournemouth.
Liverpool facts & analysis
– Liverpool are in 8th place in the table with 9 points.
– The Reds won the last two home games.
– LFC last played only 0-0 draw at Everton.
Brighton form & balance check
For the first time since May 20, 2019, Brighton & Hove Albion will play a competitive game without Graham Potter as head coach. Potter left the Seagulls after 134 games in which the southerners averaged 1.28 points. Now an Italian, Roberto De Zerbi, sits on Brighton’s coaching bench. The 43-year-old takes over a team that most recently won 5-2 against Leicester City, their third win from the last five games. The Seagulls have only lost one game this season. That defeat came on the penultimate matchday when they visited Fulham.
“De Zerbismo “
In England, Roberto De Zerbi is a complete unknown. Brighton chose the Italian because the 43-year-old’s playing philosophy is similar to the one that predecessor Potter implemented at Brighton. But it is not only his approach to the game that speaks for De Zerbi. The coach was successful with his system, which was christened “De Zerbismo” at Sassuolo in Italy. With Sassuolo, De Zerbi scored an average of 1.38 points in 130 appearances. At his last station, the Italian surpassed this record. With Shakhtar Donetsk, the Italian scored 2.17 points per game. However, due to the war in Ukraine, De Zerbi was only in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk for 30 games.
Brighton facts & analysis
– Brighton are in 4th place in the table with 13 points.
– Most recently, the Seagulls won 5-2 against Leicester.
– Brighton have only conceded one defeat this season.
Predicted line-up – last update on 29 September 2022
It’s no secret that Jürgen Klopp will once again line up in a 4-3-3 system on Saturday. To that end, there is light in the dark again in the Reds’ injury cabinet. With Jota and Nunez, two attackers are ready for action again. With Arthur, Liverpool secured another midfielder on Deadline Day. Only Keita and Thiago remain out injured for the time being.
Whether De Zerbi will also field a 3-5-2 system on his debut, as Graham Potter did in the Seagulls’ last competitive game, will be exciting to watch. The Italian favoured a style of play with tall full-backs during his time in Italy, so it is not unlikely that Brighton will field that formation.
