Leverkusen Form & Record Check
After their historic last season, Leverkusen are not starting quite as well as they did last year, but they are still putting in very good performances. In the first six games, they picked up three wins and two draws, and their unbeaten streak was broken on matchday 2 when they lost 3-2 at home to RB Leipzig.
In the Bundesliga table, this points haul currently puts them in fifth place, with only three points separating them from league leaders Munich. In the last game before the international break, it was already 2-0 to the Werkself after eight minutes, but the newly promoted team from Kiel managed to equalize and steal two points from the reigning champions due to an incredibly poor conversion rate.
Defensively too vulnerable?
What probably distinguishes the current season performance most from the last one is the defensive vulnerability that Bayer has achieved in recent weeks. While they were able to keep their white vest twice in the first six games last year, they have not been able to do so in the current season.
In every game so far, there has been at least one goal against. With twelve goals conceded in the games so far, Leverkusen has the fourth-worst defense in the league. By comparison, in the championship season, they conceded just six goals after six games.

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
There was no question that Frankfurt had a squad with quality. But their current start to the season will probably come as a bit of a surprise even to the biggest optimists among the fans. After losing their opening game against BVB, they stepped it up a notch and have been unbeaten ever since. Four wins and a draw in the last five games is their record in the five games that have followed. The draw against the record champions from Munich on the last match day was an incredible team performance.
Although Eintracht were twice behind, they managed to maintain their mentality and take a point against the league leaders with the 3-3 draw. They are currently in third place and could even take the lead themselves with a win.
Ekitiké x Marmoush
In the current weeks, two men in particular are doing very well for Frankfurt. Hugo Ekitiké and Omar Marmoush work perfectly together on the field and are currently the best striker duo in the Bundesliga. Ekitiké repeatedly sets up his partner with pace dribbles, creating spaces for him to score two goals and set up two of his own.
But Omar Marmoush is in a league of his own these weeks. With eight goals in six games, he is the current top scorer in the league, and he has also helped his team with a further four assists. It doesn’t appear that his form will flatten out anytime soon.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
- 3rd place
- Last game 3:3
- One defeat in the first six games
Leverkusen will start as usual in a 3-4-2-1, with Xabi Alonso likely to be without playmaker Wirtz. The youngster was injured in the international match against the Netherlands, with a more detailed diagnosis to be provided in the course of the week. If he is not fit, Terrier will be allowed to start. Otherwise, there is still the possibility that Hincapie will move into the center of defense for Andrich.
We don’t expect any personnel changes from Frankfurt. They start in a 4-4-2 and Dino Toppmöller will most likely fall back on the same eleven that did fantastically against Bayern.
