RB Leipzig vs. Hertha BSC
After the away game at Celtic Glasgow in the Champions League, RB Leipzig receive another real traditional club in the top match of the Bundesliga on Saturday evening. Strictly speaking, Hertha BSC, currently the oldest active Bundesliga club, will challenge the Red Bulls. For the Alte Dame, the upcoming opponent is a real fearsome opponent. With two exceptions, the Capitals have lost all their duels with Leipzig.
One of these exceptions even took place away from home. Five years ago, under coach Pal Dardai, BSC won 3:2 at the Red Bull Arena. It is hardly statistically provable that Berlin will score again in Leipzig, but it is not impossible, especially this season. Coach Sandro Schwarz stabilised the Old Lady and, together with President Kay Bernstein, led them away from the intensive care unit and back into the old waters. The current series of five unbeaten games in a row shows how stable the capital club is. The Berlin Sport-Club wants to maintain this streak at RB.
In fact, Leipzig are the clear favourites going into the match, but not everything is going well under the new coach from Austria. Most recently, the Red Bulls only played to a 1-1 draw in Mainz and are thus still in no-man’s land in the table. Whether we still believe RB can win against the in-form Hertha, you can find out in our Leipzig – Hertha betting tip.

Leipzig Form & Balance Check
With the recent 1-1 draw at FSV Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig failed to build on their previous 4-0 win over VfL Bochum. However, the two most recent games in the Champions League give hope. RB won the home game against Celtic Glasgow 3:1 and after the point-split in Mainz, the Saxons beat the Scottish representative again last Wednesday. Red Bull won 2-0 in Glasgow to go into their clash with the Old Lady on a run of four unbeaten games in a row.
Turnaround achieved
Even though a 1-1 draw at the Nullfünfern does not meet Leipzig’s standards, the turnaround was achieved under coach Marco Rose. Under his predecessor Tedesco, the goal ratio was always negative. Thanks to the 4:0 home win, it is now positive at 14:13. But the style of play has also improved. Leipzig, meanwhile, create more goal chances than they allow. Currently, they have 1.89 great goal chances per game. The chances allowed are lower at 1.33 per game. Another factor in the Saxons’ game that has increased is their passing rate. This is now at a solid 82.5%.
Leipzig facts & analysis
– With 12 points on the 11th place of the table
– Last played 1:1 against Mainz
– Won 4 of 6 competitive matches under Rose
Hertha form & balance check
Although they again failed to get their first home win of the season, the recent 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg was further confirmation of what Berlin fans already knew since the 2-0 away win in Augsburg. Coach Sandro Schwarz is stabilising the Alte Dame and managing to form a real team out of eleven players. Even though the capital club has only one win from nine games, the bottom line is currently five unbeaten games in a row. The capitals have not seen such a record for a long time. Another fact that speaks for the positive development in Hertha’s game is that the Berliners are only the third team after Dortmund and Leverkusen to score twice against Freiburg.
Many leads squandered
But part of the whole truth is that BSC could already have more points on the scoreboard. In Mainz, at home against Frankfurt, Leverkusen and Freiburg, Hertha led at times. Against Freiburg and Leverkusen, however, it must also be mentioned that Berlin turned the duels from a 0:1 deficit into an interim 2:1 lead. However, the bottom line is four blown leads. With the cup defeat in Braunschweig, Hertha have given away five leads. Nevertheless, no one in the capital is complaining about draws against Frankfurt, Freiburg, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen.
Hertha facts & analysis
– With 8 points on the 14th place in the table.
– Unbeaten for 5 matches
– Last 4 games ended in draw
Predicted line-up – last update on 13 October 2022
Under coach Marco Rose, the new system of play is always solidifying. RB reverts from a 3-5-2 system to a compact 4-2-3-1 system. For the first time under Rose, Leipzig is again operating with only one striker, which was most recently Silva. The Portuguese is accompanied by Szoboszlai and Werner on the wings. Nyland could also be in the squad for the first time. The Norwegian national goalkeeper was signed on a free transfer after Gulacsi tore his cruciate ligament. Most recently, Blaswich stood between the posts. In addition to Gulacsi, Klostermann, Laimer and Olmo are out.
Willi Kanga could make his comeback in the starting eleven for Hertha BSC. The striker has been absent due to injury, but is fit for the upcoming clash. The Ivory Coast attacker was replaced by Jovetic in the home game, but he might be the wrong choice against Leipzig, as Kanga is clearly stronger in terms of running. In addition, Rogel seems to have taken Uremovic’s place in central defence. With Lukebakio and Ejuke, the heart of coach Schwarz’s 4-3-3 system is found on the flanks. Still on the mend are Boëtius, Ngankam and Nsona.
