RB Leipzig vs. Borussia Dortmund

This coming Saturday we can look forward to two real top matches in the Bundesliga. At 3:30 p.m., FC Bayern will host Freiburg, who are still unbeaten in third place, and at 6:30 p.m., RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund will meet at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.

From BVB’s point of view, this can certainly be called a duel with one of their favourite opponents. Borussia is undefeated against Leipzig in eight games and has won six of them, most recently 4:1 in the DFB Cup final in May. Whether we think BVB can win again without Haaland and what other tips we would give for this match can be found in our Leipzig vs. Dortmund betting tips.

 – Competition: Bundesliga, Matchday 11

Leipzig -Dortmund Tip

In the table, the teams are a proud nine points apart after ten matchdays. While BVB have won eight of those ten games, Leipzig have only managed four wins so far this season. Jesse Marsch’s team has not yet fully arrived in the 2021/22 season, but has recently managed to remain unbeaten six times in a row. Ideally, a win against Dortmund would enable them to make the big leap to fourth place. BVB can take over the top spot in the table with a three-goal win, provided Bayern drop points against Freiburg.

Leipzig Form & Balance Check

The hosts have gone from strength to strength of late after a poor start to the season in the Bundesliga. After three defeats in the first four games, they have not lost any of their last six matches. However, the differences between home and away games continue to be very serious, which is something a supposedly top team should not allow itself to do. At the Red Bull Arena, the Saxons have won every match by a clear margin, apart from the 1:4 against Bayern. 4:0 against Stuttgart, 6:0 against Hertha, 3:0 against Bochum and 4:1 against Greuther Fürth. Away from home, however, the shoe pinches.

RB still without an away win

In the five away games so far, RB has yet to pick up a single win. After narrow defeats in Mainz (1:0) and Wolfsburg (1:0), there have recently been three 1-1 draws in a row. First in Cologne and Freiburg, then last weekend in Frankfurt. There, the first away win was within reach, but Frankfurt’s centre-back Tuta put a spoke in Leipzig’s wheel with a 94th-minute equaliser. There was also nothing to cheer about away from home in the top flight. RB lost at Manchester City (6:3) and in Paris (3:2). At home, however, the first point of the group phase was earned last Wednesday against PSG (2:2). However, the early exit is sealed.

Leipzig facts & analysis
15 points from 10 games
 – Last played 1:1 against Frankfurt
 – Away still without a win (2N, 3U)
 – On the other hand won 4/5 games at home

Dortmund Form & Balance Check

BVB have been able to make up for Erling Haaland’s absence quite well so far, at least in the Bundesliga. The last two games in Bielefeld (1:3) and against Dortmund (2:0) were both won, even if it was already apparent there that a key piece of the offensive puzzle was missing. Especially in Bielefeld, BVB should not have complained if they had initially fallen behind. In the end, however, only the result and the points count, and the Black and Yellows should be relatively satisfied with the current Bundesliga standings. Bayern are currently only one point away.

BVB with failed revenge

In the Champions League, the world looks completely different. The first leg in Amsterdam, in which Erling Haaland was injured, was lost without a care in the world with 4:0. A real debacle for an ambitious club like BVB. In the return match in Dortmund last Wednesday, it initially looked as if Marco Rose’s team could take revenge for the defeat. After a more than questionable sending-off for Mats Hummels, BVB took a 1-0 lead minutes before the break through an equally flattering penalty. However, Dortmund was unable to withstand the Dutch pressure for more than 90 minutes. In the end, Ajax still prevailed 1:3 with goals from Tadic, Haller and Klaasen. However, Borussia still has the chance to advance in its own hands.

Dortmund facts & analysis
 – 24 points from 10 games
 – Last win 2:0 against Cologne
 – Unbeaten in 8 competitive games against Leipzig
 – Last duel in the final of the DFB Cup won 4:1

Predicted line-up – last update on 4 November 2021

We expect the hosts to play with a back four. There should be no surprises in defence. In midfield we expect Konrad Laimer and Amadou Haidara, but Kevin Kampl and Tyler Adams are also available. In the forwards, as always, it comes down to a choice between Yusuff Poulsen and Andre Silva. We are counting on Poulsen.

BVB will have to do without Marius Wolf on Saturday. He was substituted injured against Ajax Amsterdam. If we stick with a four-man defence, Felix Passlack will deputise for him. Otherwise, Marin Pongracic will be available. Apart from that, the starting eleven could remain unchanged. In the attack, however, we expect Donyell Malen to replace Stefan Tigges.

Leipzig – Dortmund direct comparison & Statistics

The still young direct comparison goes clearly to BVB with seven wins to two and two draws. Dortmund have won all four of their last matches. Both of Leipzig’s victories came in the first three meetings. Most recently, BVB’s 3:2 home win was followed by a 4:1 victory in the DFB Cup final.

 – Did you know that RB Leipzig score 29% of their goals between the 46-60 minute mark?
 – Will the streak continue? RB Leipzig have always scored in their last 13 matches.
 – Dominik Szoboszlai has the most assists on goal for RB Leipzig with 3 assists. Erling Haaland (4) is in front for Borussia Dortmund.
 – Borussia Dortmund are on a 4-match winning streak in the Bundesliga.
 – Last season Borussia Dortmund won both matches against RB Leipzig (3-2 at home and 3-1 away).
