Leganes – Girona
Those looking for the pure thrill of a relegation battle will find it on Thursday at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque: Leganés are stuck in 19th place with 29 points, while Girona travel with only five points more and seem completely unsettled after a disastrous second half of the season.
Looking back, the wild 4-3 spectacle from the first leg seems almost like it was from a different season. Today, existential fears, injury worries, and the question of who will make fewer defensive mistakes dominate. For Leganés, this may be the last chance to get back on track; Girona, on the other hand, cannot afford to continue drifting toward the relegation zone.

Leganes form & record check
Leganés has been waiting for a win for five league games; in addition to two draws, it has suffered three defeats – most recently a goalless draw against Mallorca, in which the defense looked surprisingly solid.
Coach Borja Jiménez emphasizes the newly gained compactness, but there is a lack of ideas up front. New signing Duk remains a substitute, with Miguel only coming on sporadically. As long as the long-awaited breakthrough fails to materialize, belief in survival remains little more than lip service.
Leganés are likely to stick with their tried-and-tested 4-2-3-1 formation. Dmitrović will start in goal, with Sáenz alongside González in central defense; Jiménez will have to improvise on the flanks due to the absences of Franquesa and Barisic. Neyou and Tapia will anchor the midfield, with Diomande, Cissé, and Adrià Alti playing in front of center forward Diego García.
Duk is a wild card option on the bench, but there is little real competition for places in the starting line-up – Rosier and Raba remain set to start despite their uncertain futures.
Girona form & record check
Girona is in deep crisis: one point from five games, most recently a sobering 1-3 defeat to Betis. Alarmingly, the team only scores after the break and then concedes decisive goals.
The injury list (including Arnau Martínez) is forcing coach Míchel to rotate his squad, but the desired effect has not been achieved: in each of the last five games, the team has conceded at least one goal. The five-point lead over Leganés is shrinking dangerously.
Girona are also expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation: Gazzaniga; Francés, Krejčí, Blind, Miguel Gutiérrez; Arthur alongside Iván Martín; Tsygankov, Yangel Herrera and Danjuma in attack behind Asprilla.
Arnau Martínez is still out, and Abel Ruiz is likely to sit out after his recent complaints. Despite the negative run, major experiments are unlikely.
H2H Leganes – Girona Head-to-head & statistics
In the last five head-to-head matches, Girona won three times, Leganés once, and there was one draw. Four times, both teams scored less than 3.5 goals – only the 4-3 in the fall broke the mold.
It is striking that Leganés were behind at half-time in four of these games, while Girona scored at least once in the same number of games. History therefore favors the Catalans, but their current form and position in the table suggest a very different, much more cautious encounter.
