Inter Milan vs. Juventus Turin

Without much of a break, the new 2022 football year gets off to a flying start. Before important points are at stake in Europe’s major leagues again next weekend, the fans of football can look forward to the final of the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday evening. Traditionally, it is a duel between the champions and the reigning cup winners. What in Germany is usually played before the start of the new season, in Italy always takes place at the beginning of the year. Inter Milan and the Old Lady from Torino will face each other on Wednesday at 9:00 pm.

If we take a closer look at the current form of both teams, we can expect two teams with a broad chest going into the match. Inter Milan narrowly beat Lazio Roma 2-1 in the classic last weekend. This allowed the Milanese to defend their position at the top of the table ahead of Milan. Their upcoming opponents from Torino turned a 1:3 against Roma into a 4:3 victory and with this success, coach Allegri’s eleven showed an extreme amount of morale.

Inter Form & Balance Check

The reigning champions have picked up in the new season exactly where they left off last season. The Nerazzurri are currently in 1st place, one point ahead of AC Milan. However, coach Simone Inzaghi’s men still have a game up their sleeve. Last weekend, they faced Inzaghi’s former club, Lazio Roma. In what was at times a high-class match, the champions won 2-1, which means that Inter Milan have now won eight games in a row. Inter is therefore well on the way to defending its title.

Favourites against Juve

In recent years, it has usually been the case that Juventus Turin have come out on top in the big games against Inter. However, that changed with last year’s championship. Even if many fans feared that the departures of coach Conte and the two superstars Lukaku, as well as Hakimi have lost the winning mentality, they need not worry. As we saw last weekend against Lazio, Inter are currently at full strength in the big games.

Top of the Serie A table
 – Won last 8 games
 – Most recent 2-1 win over Lazio

Juventus form & balance check

The Old Lady from Turin is gradually getting into better and better shape. After the Italian record champions completely blew the start of the new season, coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team is stalking higher and higher up the table. Most recently, there were the two tough games against Napoli and Roma. Against the first-mentioned Napoli, Juve managed to secure a point with a 1-1 draw. The last match against AS Roma was an absolute spectacle. Until the 70th minute, the Turin team was trailing 1:3, before Kulusesvki, Locatelli and De Sciglio turned the game around in favour of the Old Lady.

Serious injury to Chiesa

Juventus, however, had to buy the victory against Roma very dearly. Firstly, defender De Ligt received his second yellow card shortly before the end for a handball and secondly, Chiesa had to be substituted due to injury. The Turin fans already feared the worst and the examinations after the match did not allow any other result. The 2021 European champion tore his cruciate ligament and thus he will miss the Italian record champions for at least half a year.

Juventus facts & analysis
 – In 5th place in the table
 – Most recently won 4-3 against Roma
 – Have to do without Chiesa for a long time

Predicted line-up – last update on 10 January 2022

Champions Inter Milan won’t want to change much in the upcoming match if we look at their last game against Lazio. There it was a 2:1 victory and coach Inzaghi therefore counts on the same eleven. For Juve, Chiesa will have to be replaced and Kulusevski is likely to start. Morata will get another chance at the striker’s spot.
