Huddersfield Town vs. Nottingham Forest
The 2021/22 season in what is arguably still the best and, more importantly, most expensive league in the world, has come to an end. Manchester City have secured the title for the fourth time in the last five years. Despite being 2-0 down, Pep Guardiola’s men won 3-2 against Aston Villa to finish one point ahead of Liverpool FC. 19 starting places have already been allocated for the coming season and the final of the play-offs will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest will fight for the last starting place for the Premier League. You can find out who we think will come out on top in our Huddersfield – Nottingham tip.
If we take a closer look at the past regular season in the Championship, we can see that both Huddersfield, third in the table, and Nottingham, fourth, are in the final of the play-offs and rightly so. Huddersfield also beat Luton Town in the semi-finals, whereas Nottingham only managed to book their place in the grand final at Wembley on penalties against Sheffield United.

Huddersfield Form & Balance Check
Huddersfield Town are playing a very strong season on balance, which the Terriers can now crown with promotion to the top flight of English football. Carlos Corberán’s side finished third in the regular season and David Wagner’s former club deserved their place in the play-offs.
In the two semi-final matches Huddersfield had to deal with Luton Town. After a 1-1 draw at Luton Town, they ended up with a narrow 1-0 win to book their place in the big game at London’s Wembley Stadium. This is the second time since 2017 that the Terriers have had the opportunity to progress to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Better finish, still underdogs?
With 82 points Huddersfield had at the end two points more on their account than their upcoming opponents from Nottingham. Nevertheless, Huddersfield go into the game as underdogs, at least as far as the bookmakers’ odds are concerned. In most cases, the odds on a win for the Terriers are in the three-figure range. Only a few people know how these odds come about. Although Huddersfield are at a disadvantage to Nottingham in terms of goals scored and conceded, we don’t see the Terriers as being any worse in terms of squad. We expect a 50-50 game in the end, where only little things will decide.
Huddersfield facts & analysis
– Defeated Luton Town in the semi-finals.
– Finished regular season in 3rd place
– Unbeaten for 9 games
Nottingham Form & Balance Check
Nottingham Forest’s men could achieve something on Sunday that the entire club, the city and of course the fans have been waiting for for an incredible 23 years. For that long Nottingham have been eagerly anticipating their return to the Premier League. The last time they were in the Premier League, Manchester United had just won the treble under Sir Alex Ferguson. A lot has happened since then, and the fourth-placed team in the Championship last season would definitely like to win promotion. The strengths of coach Steve Cooper’s team lie above all in their attack. With 73 goals, they were in third place behind the two promoted teams Fulham and AFC Bournemouth.
Dramatic final finish
For Nottingham Forest, the two games in the semi-final against Sheffield United truly could not have been more dramatic. There was a narrow 2-1 win in the first leg, which was given away by a 1-2 defeat in the second leg. In the end, the penalty shoot-out had to decide and Nottingham had the better end for themselves. In view of the grand final on Saturday, Nottingham must be more secure, especially in defence. Against Sheffield, Nottingham were lucky that the visitors did not take their chances.
Nottingham facts & analysis
– Ranked 4th in the regular season.
– Won on penalties against Sheffield Wednesday
– Defensively far too shaky most of the time
Predicted line-up – last update on 27 May 2022
Huddersfield have home advantage at Wembley Stadium next Sunday and that is why they are named first. The Terriers will be looking to field a 3-5-2. Especially the two very accurate Sinani and Ward have to be looked at. Together they scored 20 goals. The upcoming opponents from Nottingham will want to counter with a 3-4-1-2. Johnson and Surridge should provide the necessary goals.
