TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – SC Freiburg
Our Hoffenheim – Freiburg betting tip is: Both teams score – 1.55 odds
- In seven of the last eight meetings between the two, this bet would have worked
- Hoffenheim has only not scored in four of their twelve league games this season
- The Hoffenheim team are the fifth-best offensive team in the Bundesliga at home
The Bundesliga also enters the next match day at the weekend after a very exciting English week. We want to look at a game between two teams for whom these cup rounds went less well a few days ago. TSG Hoffenheim will face SC Freiburg at home.
The Sinsheim-based team were beaten 3-0 by league rivals Wolfsburg in the last sixteen, while Freiburg’s 3-1 defeat against third-division side Arminia Bielefeld was probably even more disappointing. In the league, the differences have also been stark so far. TSG is currently even fighting against relegation, while Freiburg is in the middle of the race for European places. Which team was able to cope better with the cup elimination and will leave the pitch with three points from this matchday, you can find out in our Hoffenheim – Freiburg betting tip.

Hoffenheim Form & record check
The Hoffenheim team have had a very difficult season so far. With Coach Matarazzo, there was little positive development to be seen in the first few days of the season, but things are now expected to go better with Christian Ilzer. In their last five games, TSG drew with Augsburg and Heidenheim, won against Leipzig, and lost to St. Pauli and, most recently, to Mainz. They are currently in 14th place in the table with twelve points and are only two points ahead of the relegation place.
For the Sinsheimers, the season so far has been a disaster, to say the least. They also put in a very weak performance during the week and were knocked out of the DFB Cup with a 3-0 away defeat against Wolfsburg.
Fear opponent?
A glance at the statistics from their previous meetings is enough to see how one-sided this pairing has been in recent times. TSG Hoffenheim have only won one of their last 11 competitive games against SC Freiburg, when they emerged victorious with a narrow 2-1 away win in December 2021. In their last five Bundesliga meetings, the Sinsheim-based team have only managed to pick up a single point, with one draw and four defeats.
Hoffenheim has been waiting longer for a Bundesliga home win against no other club than against the Breisgauers. This dry spell has now lasted for five games, the last home success was celebrated in the 3:1 in September 2018.
Hoffenheim Facts & Analysis
- 14th place in the table
- One win in the last five games
- Last league game lost 0-2 to Mainz
Freiburg Form & Record Check
Freiburg have been playing a very solid season under Julian Schuster. However, they only managed two draws against Mainz and Union Berlin from their last five games, had to go home without points against Dortmund and Leipzig, and finally managed to win again against Gladbach last weekend.
They are currently in sixth place in the table and are therefore still in the running for a place in Europe. However, Freiburg suffered a major disappointment during the week when they were knocked out of the DFB Cup by third-division Bielefeld in the round of 16.
Mixed Signals
SC Freiburg can be relatively satisfied with the season so far, but there are always setbacks. The Breisgauer ended a streak of four Bundesliga games without a win with a 3-1 victory over Gladbach and currently have five points more than at the same point last season, when they had only 15 points.
However, the sports club has not won away from home in three games, and they have never had a longer winless streak away from home in 2024. But as already described, Freiburg have a very respectable record against Hoffenheim and can therefore approach this game with a healthy amount of optimism.
Freiburg facts & analysis
- Sixth place in the table
- Last three games against Hoffenheim won
- Last league game won 3-1 against Gladbach
It can be assumed that Christian Ilzer will stick with a 4-2-3-1 formation, but will rotate a little in terms of personnel. Kaderabek will start again at right-back in place of Gendrey, with Geiger taking over the role in the center from Samassekou. On offense, Tabakovic or Berisha could also play instead of Moerstedt.
SC Freiburg will also start in a 4-2-3-1 formation under Julian Schuster. Compared to the cup game, the Breisgauers will make changes in a few positions. Lienhart returns to central defense for Rosenfelder and Grifo starts instead of Muslija.
