TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – FC Augsburg
The Bundesliga is entering its hot phase and there are some exciting games on the program this weekend. On Sunday afternoon, TSG Hoffenheim will host FC Augsburg. It is a duel between two teams that still have hopes of playing internationally next year. Both need a three-pointer to keep their hopes alive. Find out who will come out on top and who is worth betting on in our Hoffenheim – Augsburg betting tip.
Hoffenheim were unlucky to lose to leaders Leverkusen last weekend. They were still in the lead until the 88th minute, but then conceded two quick goals shortly before the final whistle. Bitter, because some of their rivals in the battle for a Conference League place also dropped points and TSG would have had the chance to move closer to fifth place.
Augsburg recently shared the points with 1. FC Köln. The result is actually not good enough for them either, but it is somewhat surprising that FCA are currently so high up the table. Nobody would have thought at the start of the season that they would be fighting for a place in the European Cup this year. They are currently the top runners-up to Frankfurt, who still occupy the final qualification spot

Hoffenheim Form & Balance Check
Hoffenheim are in a negative loop and conceded their third defeat in a row with their last-minute defeat against Leverkusen. The Kraichgauers have picked up six points from their last five games and are currently ninth in the table with 33 points.
The gap to the hoped-for fifth place has thus grown to eight points in recent weeks and the chances of reaching the European Cup are now only slim. Nevertheless, it is worth Hoffenheim trying to make up a few more places, because depending on how the DFB Cup final turns out, another international starting place will be added
Baier strikes again
After Maximilian Beier scored two consecutive braces against Bremen and BVB a few weeks ago, he was unlucky in the two games that followed. However, he struck again against Leverkusen last weekend, scoring for his team to give them a 1:0 lead.
The 21-year-old striker now has a total of 13 goals for the season and has deservedly played his way into the national team. His chances of featuring at Euro 2024 in the summer are good, and Beier would like to underline his ambitions of playing for Germany with goals in the final spurt of the season
Hoffenheim facts & analysis
- ninth place in the table
- Lost last three games
- Fourth worst defense in the league
Augsburg Form & Balance Check
Augsburg are playing a great second half of the season and have worked their way up to sixth place with their performances. Before the recent draw against Cologne, coach Jess Thorup’s team had won four games in a row and are now in seventh place with a strong 36 points.
The difference to fifth place is only five points and with a win, FCA could keep up the pressure on Frankfurt. Should Frankfurt slip up again, Augsburg would have it in their own hands to move up to fifth place in a direct clash with Eintracht on matchday 30 and thus play internationally next year.
Strong defense in the second half of the season
Augsburg are in fourth place in the table for the second half of the season and have picked up a strong 18 points from the ten games played so far since the second half of the season. This means Thorup’s side have already collected as many points as in the first half of the season.
This is mainly due to their much-improved defense, as they also have the fourth-best defense in the league with only eleven goals conceded in these games. Even strong teams such as Bayern and Leipzig conceded more goals than Augsburg in the second half of the season. FCA want to maintain this defensive stability and perhaps even take them to the European Cup in the end
Augsburg facts & analysis
- Sixth place in the table
- Last game draw
- Not lost in five games
Hoffenheim want to attack again and we expect the team to be at full offensive power. In a 3-2-2-3 system, Andreij Kramarić, Beier and Wout Weghorst will form the front three. Grischa Prömel returns to the starting eleven for Umut Tohumcu. Options from the bench are Ihlas Bebou and Dennis Geiger. John Anthony Brooks also returns to the squad after his suspension.
Augsburg will play with a 4-1-2-3 formation. Kristijan Jakić will be the full-back in front of the back four. We expect Arne Maier to play a little more defensively than against Cologne. Ermedin Demirović returns to the attack after serving his yellow card suspension. Elvis Rexhbecaj will most likely have to make way for him. Mads Pedersen could also return to the starting eleven for Iago

This will be the 30th clash between TSG and Augsburg this Sunday. Hoffenheim have won significantly more games in their history, with 17 wins to six.
