Hertha BSC – RB Leipzig
The top match of the 27th matchday in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening takes place in the capital this week. Hertha will then welcome the freshly crowned cup semi-finalists from Leipzig. While the Old Lady is fighting for survival in the league, RasenBallsport is desperate to secure another qualification for the Champions League. Find out who will secure the three points in this clash of opposites in our Hertha vs Leipzig tip.
Hertha BSC have not shown any consistency this season and have already suffered 14 defeats. With only 22 points on their account, the Berliners are in a disappointing 16th place in the table. The capitals are once again threatened with relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga. The previous week, however, the Alte Dame fought their way to an important 1-1 draw in Freiburg.
Their opponents from Leipzig have also been weakening in the league lately. The Saxons lost three of their last four games in the Bundesliga and are currently fifth in the table. On Wednesday, however, RB celebrated a great success in the DFB Cup. The Leipzigers won their quarter-final match against BVB with a commanding 2-0 score, thus advancing to the semi-finals of the competition for the third time in a row.

Hertha Form & Balance Check
In West Berlin, the relegation battle is on the agenda again this year. Hertha have been stuck in the bottom of the table for the entire season and have often failed to make a break. The Old Lady is currently in 16th place, which would again mean two relegation matches at the end of the season.
Hertha, however, have only lost three of their last seven games in the Bundesliga and have gone three games in a row without defeat at home in the Olympiastadion. Last weekend, the Alte Dame also fought their way to a deserved 1-1 draw at Freiburg.
Berlin’s home strength
Hertha BSC have relied heavily on Dodi Lukébakio this season, who is the team’s top scorer with ten goals. However, despite this strong performance by the striker, the entire team has only scored 31 goals, making it one of the weakest offensives in the league. Only three teams have scored fewer goals in the Bundesliga so far.
However, Hertha do not play like a relegation candidate at home in the Olympiastadion. The Berliners have only lost four home games this Bundesliga season. In addition, BSC have already scored 19 goals in their first 13 home matches this season.
Hertha facts & analysis
– Third weakest defence in the league.
– Currently in 16th place in the league
– Fourth weakest offense in the league
Leipzig Form & Balance Check
Before the arrival of coach Marco Rose on matchday six, RB Leipzig’s start to the season was rather mixed. The team from Saxony was in the midfield of the table, with only one win from the first five games. But Rose helped the team to become a powerful unit again.
However, things have again not been going well at RB in recent weeks. The Saxons took defeats in three of their last four Bundesliga games, including a 3-0 loss to Mainz last weekend. As a result, Leipzig slipped to fifth place. They were also eliminated by Man City in the last 16 of the Champions League, suffering a heavy 7-0 defeat in the second leg. In the DFB Cup on Wednesday, however, RB then bowled BVB out of the competition with 2:0.
New System
Coach Marco Rose fielded his team in a 3-4-2-1 in the DFB Cup on Wednesday. In this system, RasenBallsport even reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2020 under coach Julian Nagelsmann. So far this season, the Saxons have mostly played in a 4-4-2.
The central figure at Leipzig then, as now, is Timo Werner. The German international can make the most of his speed. Against Dortmund, the 27-year-old played a strong game and scored the important 1:0. Before that, Werner did not always look happy in his role at RB this season. In 20 Bundesliga appearances, the striker has scored just seven goals.
Leipzig facts & analysis
– Only four away wins in the Bundesliga so far.
– Third best offence in the league
– Reigning DFB Cup winners
Predicted line-up – last update on 6 April 2023
Coach Schwarz will probably rely on a 3-5-2 again. We expect Cigerci, Tousart and Serdar in central midfield against RB. Richter returns to the right side after his yellow suspension. Jessic Ngankam also pushes into the starting eleven after his goal against Freiburg.
Leipzig operated very successfully in a 3-4-2-1 against Dortmund on Wednesday, and we expect the Saxons to play in this formation on Saturday as well. Werner will play his speed up front as the only top player. Gulácsi, Diallo, Nkunku, Schlager and Poulsen, however, are still missing due to injury.
