Hertha BSC vs. Borussia Dortmund
After the historic 2:3 home defeat against Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund face the first of two away games in the capital on the upcoming Bundesliga matchday. The match with the Old Lady at Berlin’s Olympiastadion will kick off at 15:30 on Saturday.
For Dortmund’s so far unsuccessful newcomer Anthony Modeste, the opponent could possibly be a good omen. He scored seven times in ten Bundesliga games against Hertha BSC – only against VfL Wolfsburg (8) was he more successful. It is quite possible that he will have to take responsibility for his team on Saturday, because in the offensive, with Marco Reus, Karim Adeyemi and Mo Dahoud, three key players are questionable, Donyell Malen is already out for sure.
The Berliners, on the other hand, are on an upward trend, but have not yet been able to achieve the desired results despite clear progress in their play. Our Hertha vs. Dortmund tip will tell you whether that could work out against Dortmund on Saturday.

Hertha Form & Balance Check
It’s going uphill – is the conclusion at Hertha BSC after the first three games of the new Bundesliga season. Even if this sounds a bit strange with only one point on the credit side, there was a clear progress in the capital club, especially in the last two games, compared to the previous season. The new offensive trio Chidera Ejuke, Wilfried Kanga and Dodi Lukebakio showed very promising approaches both in the draw against Frankfurt (1:1) and last weekend in the narrow defeat in Gladbach (0:1). The fact that the Old Lady has only managed one point so far is due to individual mistakes.
Voidable goals against cost important points
Against Frankfurt, newcomer Filip Uremović lost the ball in his own half at 1:0 (3rd), paving the way for Randal Kolo Muani to score an easy equaliser (48th). Afterwards, both teams still had good chances to win, but did not take advantage of any of them. In Gladbach, the Berliners again started well, but deprived themselves of a point with two unnecessary hand penalties (the second was saved by keeper Christensen) and a lack of chances. Uremović again made a negative impression with a penalty and the subsequent yellow card. It is impressive, however, that the Berliners have fired 38 shots on goal in the three games, which is four more than their upcoming opponents from Dortmund.
Hertha facts & analysis

– Last lost 0:1 in Mönchengladbach
– Last home match won 3:2 against Dortmund
Dortmund form & balance check
It is hard to put into words what happened at Signal Iduna Park last Saturday. For the first time in the history of the Bundesliga, a team managed to turn a 0:2 deficit into a 3:2 victory after the 89th minute. If you look at BVB’s home match against Werder Bremen as a whole, this late victory was not undeserved either. The promoted team played well from the beginning and repeatedly came dangerously in front of the opponent’s goal, while Borussia was again disappointing in terms of play and only took the lead through two successful individual actions. Newcomer Anthony Modeste was on the score sheet but did not feel he took part in the game at all.
Defensive behaviour raises questions
Even more frightening than the harmless forward play, however, was the defensive behaviour when the goals were conceded. Substitute Emre Can merely provided an assist on the header to make it 2:2, and the weak-footed Niklas Süle showed why Dortmund continue to discuss his fitness level when Oliver Burke scored the winner.
Slowly but surely, the alarm bells should be ringing at BVB. The opening victories against Leverkusen (1:0) and in Freiburg (1:3) brought the desired points, but were not exactly convincing in terms of play. The only really good result so far was the 4:0 win in the DFB Cup against third division team 1860 München. If the team does not improve in Berlin, the next debacle could be looming at the still winless Old Lady.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– 6 points after 3 games
– Last lost 2:3 against Bremen
– 6 goals for the season from 6 different scorers
Predicted line-up – last updated 25 Aug 2022
For Hertha, Marton Dardai will in all likelihood take the place of Filip Uremović, who is missing after being sent off. Apart from that, the eleven should remain unchanged after the appealing performance in Gladbach. The only other players missing are the long-term injured (Ngankam, Nsona, Lee).
BVB is shorthanded before the away game in Berlin, at least some players are questionable. Malen is certain to miss out, while coach Terzic is “in good spirits” about Adeyemi and Reus. Whether Mo Dahoud can play will be decided in the short term. Ideally, we expect BVB to play in a 3-5-2 system with Süle Hummels and Schlotterbeck, as well as Modeste and Moukoko or Adeyemi up top.
