Gladbach Form & Balance Check
The form curve of Borussia is currently pointing steeply downwards. After a bumpy start to the season, the Foals celebrated a sensational 5:0 cup win against Bayern Munich at the end of October and then remained unbeaten in the Bundesliga for three games. For a short time, it seemed as if new coach Adi Hütter and Borussia had finally come together. Since then, however, things have gone downhill. The 1:4 away defeat in the Rhine derby in Cologne was followed by the 0:6 home defeat against SC Freiburg. On the last matchday, the team was dealt the next blow. Borussia lost 1:4 at RB Leipzig
Still well served with four goals conceded
The 1:4 defeat against RB Leipzig should have been much higher. After 19 minutes, nobody should have complained if it had already been 0:3. However, Leipzig needed a standard situation in the 21st minute of play to beat Yann Sommer. Josko Gvardiol headed in Angelino’s sharp free-kick. In the 33rd minute, André Silva increased the lead with Leipzig’s next chance. Until the half-time break, Gladbach did not create enough and Leipzig missed a few more half chances.
After the break, André Silva, after Sommer had rushed out of his box, managed to hit the crossbar instead of the empty goal from 18 metres. Gladbach then became bogged down in front without being really dangerous, and Leipzig continued to miss chances. Somewhat surprisingly, the tame Foals scored a late goal after a free kick by Ramy Bensebaini (88′). In injury time, Christopher Nkunku (90+1′) and Benjamin Henrichs (90+4′) successfully completed two counter-attacks against a retreating Gladbach side to make the final score 4:1.
Gladbach facts & analysis
– three defeats in a row
– ten goals conceded in last three games
– third-worst defence in Bundesliga: 28 goals conceded in 15 games
Frankfurt form & balance check
The Eintracht from Frankfurt are getting better and better this season. Of their last five league games, the Frankfurt side have won four. With Greuther Fürth, Union Berlin, SC Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen, they beat teams from all regions of the table during this period. Against Leverkusen last weekend, they spectacularly turned around a 0:2 deficit and deservedly won 5:2 in the end. The Frankfurt team has been particularly strong on the offensive lately. They have scored at least twice in seven of their last eight competitive matches.
Strong team performance
Frankfurt’s current flight of fancy rests on many different shoulders. For example: Frankfurt’s last seven Bundesliga goals were scored by seven different players. And it’s not just the offensive players who are involved. Against Leverkusen, Tuta and Evan N’Dicka, two defenders, and Djibril Sow, Kristijan Jakic and Jesper Lindstrøm, three midfielders, scored.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– scored nine games in a row
– won four of the last five league matches
– scored thirteen goals in last five league games
Predicted line-up – last update on 14 December 2021
After the 5-2 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen, we expect the Frankfurt Eagles to play Gladbach without any changes in the starting eleven in a 3-4-2-1 system. Ex-Frankfurt coach Adi Hüter will have to come up with something after the third defeat in a row with at least four goals conceded on Gladbach’s side. We expect Mönchengladbach to revert to a three-man backline against Eintracht.
