SpVgg Greuther Fürth vs. Borussia Dortmund

The penultimate matchday of the Bundesliga is just around the corner and in almost all stadiums there is still at least one team in action that could very well use the three points to be awarded. In Sportpark Ronhof in Fürth, however, that is not really the case on Saturday. For BVB it is still about the last step to the vice championship, but the really important questions have long been settled on both sides.

FC Bayern was once again too big for BVB and so the Black and Yellows will have to settle for second place in the table this year. Two matchdays before the end of the season, they have a comfortable five-point lead over third-placed Werkself Leverkusen, so there should be nothing left to lose in this respect. The hosts, on the other hand, have long since been relegated and can no longer relinquish the red lantern in view of the nine-point gap to Bielefeld.

Nevertheless, the Franconians want to leave Germany’s top division with their heads held high and our Fürth vs. Dortmund betting tips will tell you whether they might even be able to score against Dortmund on Saturday.

Fürth Form & Balance Check

Despite the fact that relegation is already certain, SpVgg Greuther Fürth will sell themselves dearly in the final spurt of what is, for the time being, their last Bundesliga season, as they impressively demonstrated last Friday evening at 1. FC Union Berlin. For a long time, it even looked as if the Franconians could even record their first win since the 22nd matchday (2:1 vs. Hertha) at the extremely home-strong capital club. However, Union’s joker Sven Michel put a spoke in the visitors’ wheel with his equaliser in the 72nd minute. Nevertheless, Fürth remained unbeaten for the fourth time in the last six matches.

Cloverleaf with significantly improved second half

Generally, the cloverleaf has performed much better in the second half than in the first half of the season. Since matchday 18, Stefan Leitl’s team has conceded only four more goals (28) than BVB. Moreover, no other team has played to as many goalless draws this Bundesliga season as the cloverleaf, where this has already been the case five times (three times in the last six games).

Other than that, the meagre yield after leads can be pinpointed as another factor in the relegation. Fürth were in front in twelve games this Bundesliga season, but only won three of them in the end. No other Bundesliga team has had to concede points so often after taking the lead this season.

Fürth facts & analysis

– 18 points from 32 games
– Last played 1:1 at Union
– Drawn 4 times in last 6 games, including 3 times 0:0
– Led in 12 games, but only won 3 of them

Dortmund form & balance check

Every BVB fan who expected a strong reaction from their team last weekend to their 3-1 defeat at FC Bayern was disappointed, as they have been so often this season. The early 0:2 deficit could be turned into a 3:2 lead in the meantime, but in the end Borussia again failed to score. Jürgen Locadia (81st) and Milos Pantovic (85th) put paid to the Black-Yellows with their goals in the final phase of the game.

Defeat against Bochum emblematic of the season

Offensive was not the problem on this day, but that should not surprise anyone after the way the season has gone so far. BVB’s current 80 goals after 32 matchdays has only been surpassed once in its Bundesliga history: two years ago, when it was 82. But when you score three goals and concede four at the same time, as you did against Bochum, the whole thing is very entertaining for the neutral spectator, but from BVB’s point of view it’s not at all purposeful.

Torjäger Erling Haaland scored a treble against Bochum, marking his 61st Bundesliga goal in 65 appearances. Never before has a player needed so few matches to score over 60 goals in the league. When he most likely packs his bags in the summer, it will be a bitter loss for BVB in terms of quality, but at the same time a great opportunity. After all, the club has been far too dependent on the Norwegian’s goals in recent years, and the burden will have to be spread over several shoulders in the future. With the transfers of Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle, those responsible have always managed to give the defensive department a new look after the sometimes disastrous defensive performances this season.

Dortmund facts & analysis

– 63 points from 32 games.
– Last lost 3:4 against Bochum
– 80 goals after 32 games – 82 after 34 is the club record
– Last 2 defeats in a row

Predicted line-up – last update on 5 May 2022

Greuther Fürth will have to do without the suspended left-back Willems. He would have to be replaced by Itter. Apart from that, the starting eleven should be set in stone. Hertha loanee Ngankam and Hrgota will start up front. Nielsen, Meyerhöfer and Kehr are missing due to injury.

BVB’s injury list is still long. Hummels, Schmelzer, Dahoud, Meunier, Hazard, Kobel, Tigges, Reyna and Malen will not be available on Saturday. Erling Haaland was reported ill on Thursday. If he drops out, Moukoko or Reinier could move into the starting eleven.

Fürth – Dortmund direct comparison & Statistics

The still young direct comparison is clearly in favour of BVB with seven wins to one and one draw. The only success for SpVgg came in the 1st round of the DFB Cup in 1990. The last six duels have all gone to BVB. Three of them in the DFB Cup, but twice only in extra time. Both times the winning goal was scored in the 120th minute.

– SpVgg Greuther Fürth: Paul Seguin has collected the most yellow cards (9). At Borussia Dortmund it is Jude Bellingham (9).
– Branimir Hrgota has the most assists on goal for SpVgg Greuther Fürth with 4. Marco Reus (10) is in front for Borussia Dortmund.
– Will the streak continue? Borussia Dortmund have scored in each of their last 32 matches.
– Did you know that SpVgg Greuther Fürth score 27% of their goals between the 61-75 minute mark? That is the highest value in the league.
