Only two matchdays left until the Bundesliga season comes to an end. The battle for Europe and the fight against relegation are entering their final stages. Saturday’s conference is packed with groundbreaking matches, including the clash between SC Freiburg and FC Heidenheim. Find out who has the edge in this game and which bets are interesting for you in our Freiburg – Heidenheim betting tip.
Freiburg want to at least defend their Conference League place, but could theoretically even reach the Europa League. Either way, they need a home win against Heidenheim, as Hoffenheim, Augsburg and their upcoming opponents are breathing down their necks.
Although Heidenheim’s primary goal for the season was certainly to avoid relegation, they are only three points behind Freiburg and also have their sights set on the European Cup. Last weekend, they shared the points with Mainz to stay in the chasing pack for the final international qualification spot

Freiburg Form & Balance Check
Freiburg have failed to create a small cushion over their rivals in the battle for the Conference League in recent weeks. SC have not won in three games and have picked up just one win from their last five games. Last weekend saw a goalless draw at 1. FC Köln.
However, the Breisgau side benefited from the equally poor performances of their rivals to remain in seventh place. With 41 points, they are just one point ahead of TSG, two ahead of Augsburg and three ahead of Heidenheim. With a win and a slip-up from Eintracht, who are currently in sixth place, the Breisgauers could even play for the Europa League on the final matchday
Höler variable
On the final matchday, coach Christian Streich was forced to make some changes due to a number of defensive absentees. Among other things, Lucas Höler had to switch to the unfamiliar eighth position and play much more defensively than usual. The calculation worked out, as SC kept a clean sheet at the back and the defense was convincing.
Even though Höler is better suited as a striker, he put in a good performance and played his part in ensuring that Cologne were rarely able to overplay Freiburg’s midfield. Against Heidenheim, however, we expect the skilled striker to return to his usual position, as SC need more penetration up front to collect the points they need in the final sprint.
Freiburg facts & analysis
- Seventh place in the table
- Last game draw
- Only one win from the last five games
Heidenheim Form & Balance Check
Heidenheim can draw level with Freiburg with a win. They are currently in tenth place in the chasing pack with 38 points and their record from the last five games is two wins, two draws and one defeat.
The promoted team’s consistently solid performances secured their place in the league early on and anything more is just a bonus from coach Frank Schmidt’s point of view. Nevertheless, qualifying for Europe would still be the icing on the cake this season and would also give FCH other financial options for the squad for the new season
Kleindienst third-best German striker
Tim Kleindienst scored Heidenheim’s only goal last weekend and secured another point for his team with his 12th goal of the season. The 28-year-old thus moved into the top 10 of the league’s top scorers list and has scored the third most goals of any German Bundesliga player to date.
This puts him on a par with Niclas Füllkrug and just one goal behind Maximilian Beier, both of whom are currently in the DFB squad and will probably be in the squad for this summer’s European Championship. Even if Kleindienst is unlikely to receive a call-up from national coach Julian Nagelsmann, he has shown this season that he can also hold his own in the German top flight and is currently one of the best German strikers in the Bundesliga
Heidenheim facts & analysis
- Tenth place in the table
- Last match draw
- Only one defeat from the last seven games
The Freiburg team continue to play with a back three. In the 3-4-2-1, Nicolas Höfler returns to central midfield after serving his yellow card suspension. Höler moves back into the attack and replaces either Michael Gregoritsch or Roland Sallai on the bench. Options from the bench are Maximilian Philipp and Jordy Makengo.
We expect few changes to Heidenheim’s 4-3-3 system compared to the game against Mainz. In midfield, the recently injured Lennard Maloney could be fit again and return to the starting eleven. In all likelihood, Marvin Pieringer will have to rotate to the bench. Nikola Dovedan remains a wildcard option from the bench
Freiburg – Heidenheim head-to-head & stats
Freiburg and Heidenheim don’t know each other very well yet. Historically, there have only been three meetings between the two, with this season’s first leg being the first encounter in the Bundesliga. Prior to that, there were two encounters in the 2015/2016 season in the Bundesliga 2, both of which went to the Breisgau side.
In last December’s clash, Heidenheim ran out 3-2 winners after a lively game, meaning the SC are 2-1 up in the head-to-head. The goalscorers in the last clash included the aforementioned Höler for Freiburg and Kleindienst for Heidenheim
