SC Freiburg vs. Borussia Dortmund
After a really promising start to the Bundesliga, two teams that have each won their opener open the second matchday on Friday evening. SC Freiburg welcomes Borussia Dortmund. The Breisgau side put an exclamation mark on the first matchday with a 4-0 win in Augsburg. Newcomers Michael Gregoritsch and Matthias Ginter were particularly convincing. Their defensive stability and especially their aggressiveness were exemplary. Augsburg had nothing to counter this and the result was well deserved.
Dortmund met Leverkusen for the opener. It was the expectedly difficult match against the Werkself, but in the end they managed to hold on to their narrow lead. In the process, Borussia’s offensive play faltered again and again, and in the second half the Black and Yellows had to thank their keeper, who made several strong saves and saved the victory. Dortmund has always struggled in Freiburg in recent years, which is why the distribution of roles is not completely clear. But you can find out who we think will win the match in this Freiburg – Dortmund betting tip.

Freiburg Form & Balance Check
Freiburg could not have had a better start against their favourite opponents. Over 90 minutes, they were the better team against the Fuggerstädter and were enormously efficient, especially in the second period. The naturalness with which Freiburg played was very impressive. There were quite a few who didn’t expect the team to repeat last season’s sixth-place finish. But the game in Augsburg definitely showed something different. They hardly let anything happen and kept looking for the way forward. In addition, three newcomers – Ginter, Gregoritsch and Doan – scored. It’s fair to say that it was a perfect start.
In Freiburg, everyone is pulling in the same direction
The collective was already the big plus point for Freiburg last season. The first game in the Bundesliga proved that they have strengthened this even more for the new season. The newcomers have been integrated very well, have been convincing almost without exception, also in the cup against Lautern. The amazing thing about SC is that even when important players are absent, the team is just as determined and aggressive as before. No matter who is on the pitch at the end, everyone pulls together and supports each other unconditionally.
Freiburg facts & analysis
– Second in the table after 4-0 win in Augsburg
– Scored the second most goals on matchday one
– Took 29 of 55 points at home last season
Dortmund form & balance check
In Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia faced one of the league’s best teams individually in their opener. Dortmund played well in the first half and deserved to take the lead, but the substitution of Karim Adeyemi caused a slight break in the Westphalians’ game. Only a few chances to score were created. Much more the defensive department around keeper Gregor Kobel came to the fore in the final phase of the game. Nevertheless, some players gave hope. Moukoko had strong actions in the offensive, the key players Bellingham and Reus once again proved their value for the team.
Can Modeste convince?
The most talked about personnel in recent days has been Anthony Modeste. The Frenchman is transferring from FC Köln to Dortmund to compensate for the loss of Sebastien Haller. This transfer is quite controversial, as Modeste at his age does not really fit into Dortmund’s transfer philosophy. It is currently unclear when Haller will return, but he will almost certainly miss the first half of the season. Modeste scored 20 goals last season, but before that the 34-year-old was not a factor for a long time. We are therefore very curious to see how and whether the former Cologne player will make an impact.
Dortmund facts & analysis
– Against Leverkusen, BVB had less possession than their opponents.
– Not yet conceded a goal in a must-win match this season
– All four competitive goals so far have been scored in the first half
Predicted line-up – last update on 10 August 2022
Both have been absolutely convincing in the opener, as a result of which we do not expect any performance-related changes. For the home side, all potential regulars are available and after the strong performance in Augsburg, we expect the exact same eleven.
The visitors can possibly rely on the services of Karim Adeyemi again in Freiburg, who was substituted injured against Leverkusen. Anthony Modeste will probably be in the starting eleven immediately, displacing Yousouffa Moukoko on the bench. If Adeyemi is not fit, Thorgan Hazard or Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are available as alternatives.
