SC Freiburg – Bayern München

The 27th matchday in the Bundesliga has many top games in store for you. On Saturday afternoon, a rematch of the DFB-Pokal match during the week will take place in Breisgau. SC Freiburg, who managed a sensation in Munich, now receive FC Bayern. The record champions certainly don’t want to let the defeat sit on their hands and are therefore aiming for revenge. The Breisgauer, on the other hand, are hoping for another surprise. Find out which team will secure the three points in our Freiburg – Bayern tip.

SC Freiburg’s season is becoming more and more outstanding. Coach Christian Streich’s team is fourth in league standings and in the Europa League, SCF even made it to the last 16, even though they lost to Juventus Turin. The semi-final against Bayern in the DFB Cup during the week was the icing on the cake for the Breisgauer.

The Munich team, on the other hand, went into this season with a single intention: to win the treble. The recent hiring of Thomas Tuchel further underlined their ambition. However, the elimination in the cup means that the FCB’s goals can no longer be achieved. Bayern will therefore do everything in their power to at least win the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

Freiburg Form & Balance Check

The Breisgauer under coach Christian Streich present themselves as a real surprise team this season. SC Freiburg are currently fourth in the table and have also caused a stir internationally in the Europa League. After a flawless group phase, however, Juventus Turin were a step too big in the round of 16.

Although the SCF recently weakened in the Bundesliga and only won one of their last five games, the team from the Black Forest once again showed what they are capable of in the DFB Cup. With a surprising 2:1 victory over FC Bayern Munich, Freiburg entered the semi-finals of the cup. A real triumph for the Breisgauer, who continue to fight for a place in the international ranks in the league.

Höler increasingly important

The reason for Freiburg’s progress in the cup was also the nerves of Lucas Höler. The 28-year-old remained extremely cool in injury time and converted the decisive penalty with ice-cold precision. In the first half of the season, however, Höler was out for a long time with a fractured metatarsal and then played a rather subordinate role. In the second half of the season, however, Freiburg’s number 9 is once again a regular player.

Höler is therefore an important part of Freiburg’s success. Last year, the Breisgauer made it to the group stage of the Europa League for the first time and finished sixth in the league at the end of the season. But this season, the SCF seem to be even more ambitious. Currently, the Breisgauer have three points more on their account than at the same time last year and are fighting for a place in the top 4 of the Bundesliga.

Freiburg facts & analysis

– Currently in fourth place in the Bundesliga table.
– Unbeaten at home for 12 Bundesliga games
– In the semi-finals of the DFB Cup

Bayern form & balance check

The decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann as FC Bayern coach hit many fans like a bomb. The record champions were still fighting on all fronts at that point and were thus still in the race for the triple. Only in the league was the team lagging behind, with a five-point deficit from the previous year.

Nevertheless, the FCB officials acted and replaced Nagelsmann with Thomas Tuchel. In his first game as the new coach, the Bavarians beat Dortmund 4:2. Thus, the Munich team also regained the lead in the standings. However, Tuchel suffered a major setback in his second game on Tuesday. FC Bayern lost to SCF in the quarter-finals of the cup and now only have a chance of winning two titles.

No way through

Unlike Dortmund last weekend, SCF played extremely compact in Munich on Tuesday and hardly allowed the record champions a chance on goal. Bayern did not manage to create any chances in the final third despite having clear field superiority. The lack of goals ultimately cost the FCB a place in the semi-finals.

The Bavarians otherwise have an extremely strong offensive. With 76 goals scored, the FCB has a 19-goal lead over second-placed BVB, which has the second-best attack in the league. In a rather unusual situation, however, the record champions currently only have the second-best defence in the league. With only one goal conceded less than the Munich side, Union Berlin top the table of the best defensive

Bayern facts & analysis

– Top of the Bundesliga table.
– Best offence in the Bundesliga
– Second best defence in the Bundesliga

Predicted lineup – last update on April 6, 2023

Freiburg last appeared in Munich in a bold 4-4-2. We expect Sport-Club to play in this basic formation on Saturday as well. Philipp Lienhart will probably be injured again in central defence. In addition, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh will be absent until the end of the season with a cruciate ligament rupture.

Coach Thomas Tuchel will want to build on the success against Dortmund. The starting line-up for the upcoming match on Saturday will probably be the same eleven that already started against BVB last Saturday. High-profile players such as Cancelo, Musiala and Mané are likely to remain on the substitutes’ bench for the time being.
