SC Freiburg – Bayern Munich
SC Freiburg and FC Bayern Munich kick off the 24th matchday of the Bundesliga this weekend. We expect an exciting match when the Breisgau side host the record champions on Friday evening. The signs are good for Bayern, as they have been unbeaten at SC for eight games. Find out who will win this game and who you should bet on in our Freiburg – Bayern betting tip.
After Freiburg booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League against SC Lens last week, they suffered another setback in the league last weekend as Christian Streich’s side were beaten 2-1 at FC Augsburg. The gap to the international places is growing, and if Freiburg want to travel through the stadiums of Europe again next year, it is high time they got back on the winning track.
The Munich side won against Leipzig last weekend to extend the gap on RB. Nevertheless, the championship seems to be as good as over, and even before the game against Leipzig, Bayern announced the early departure of coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. They have no choice but to do their homework for the rest of the season and hope that leaders Leverkusen might stumble after all.

Freiburg Form & Balance Check
Freiburg’s negative streak in the league continues. The Black Forest side also failed to pick up a win last weekend, meaning their winless streak now stretches to five games. In the game against Augsburg, the 120 minutes from the European Cup match were clearly felt in the legs.
SC have picked up just two points from their last five league games and have slipped to ninth place in the table. With currently 29 points, the gap to the final international qualification place is already five points, and Freiburg have ceded their place as top runners-up in sixth place to Hoffenheim and Bremen
New additions still not helping
In the winter, Freiburg secured the services of Atilla Szalai and Florent Muslija. However, coach Streich seems to have little faith in either of them at the moment, as they remained on the bench despite playing significantly fewer minutes than their team-mates in the game against Augsburg.
As a result, SC ran out of steam in the second half. In the back three, Streich preferred to put midfielder Nicolas Höfler in the center, who was also unable to stabilize Freiburg’s defence, which had been vulnerable in recent weeks. Things will be even tighter in defense against Bayern, as Lukas Kübler will also miss out due to a thigh injury
Freiburg facts & analysis
- ninth place in the table
- Last game lost
- Not won in five games in the league
Bayern Form & Balance Check
After three consecutive defeats, the Munich side finally got another win last weekend against Leipzig, thus at least maintaining the gap to leaders Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. The difference is still eight points and Bayern will have to hope for some help from their opponents to make things tight again in terms of the championship.
The lead over a non-Champions League place has been extended to 13 points. The week before last, Bayern suffered a bitter 1-0 defeat in the round of 16 first leg at Lazio Roma. Against the deep-lying Italians in the second leg, progression in the Champions League is also in great danger
Two hopefuls back in training
Winger Kingsley Coman was able to complete his first running sessions again on Monday morning and does not appear to be far away from his comeback. The Frenchman, who injured his knee in the game against Augsburg at the beginning of January, is currently sorely missed in Munich, but it will probably not be enough for him to play against Freiburg.
Noussair Mazraoui has also already done a few running laps and could soon be available again for Bayern. Coach Tuchel will of course be hoping that both can give Bayern another push towards the end of the season and revive their sometimes uninspired attack
Bayern facts & analysis
- Place two in the table
- Last game won
- Eight points behind the top of the table
The Freiburg team play in a 3-4-2-1 system. In attack, we expect Roland Sallai to return to the starting line-up in place of Michael Gregoritsch, who was a pale figure against Augsburg. Matthias Ginter could be back in the starting eleven in the back three. Options from the bench are Jordy Makengo and Noah Weißhaupt.
We expect few changes to Bayern’s 4-3-3 compared to the game against Leipzig. Dayot Upamecano could move back into central defense for Eric Dier. Matthijs de Ligt has to rest due to his fifth yellow card and will be replaced by Min-ae Kim. Joshua Kimmich will continue in the full-back position. We expect the offense to be as usual
Freiburg – Bayern head-to-head comparison & stats
This will be the 50th meeting between Freiburg and Bayern this Friday. Bayern clearly lead the direct comparison and have 35 wins to their name. Freiburg have only won five times. The Breisgau side have also had little to play for in recent history, with Bayern winning their last five league games.
In last year’s DFB Cup, however, Freiburg surprisingly won 1:2 and therefore know how to upset the record champions. The very first match took place in 1993 and went 3:1 to Bayern.
