Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Union Berlin
After the international break, SG Eintracht Frankfurt have a home match against the still unbeaten league leaders Union Berlin as part of Matchday 8 of the Bundesliga. Kick-off is at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday at 15:30.
The signs point to an exciting encounter. The in-form SGE have won three of their last four Bundesliga matches and have climbed from 15th to seventh in the table. Union Berlin, on the other hand, are still unbeaten and have not lost in 14 league games this season! The last time the Eisernen lost was on 19 March at Bayern (0:4).
In Frankfurt, however, the Berliners have come away empty-handed in their last two guest games. Whether we think the SGE can win again on Saturday and what we think about this match is revealed in our Frankfurt vs Union Berlin tip.

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
The SGE has another tough season ahead of them with the double burden, but seems to be coping with it quite well so far. After a somewhat sluggish start to the season and only two points from the first three games, the Eagles have won three of their last four encounters in the Bundesliga. The spectacular 4:3 win at Werder Bremen was followed by a 4:0 win against RB Leipzig before losing the home match against Wolfsburg 0:1. Frankfurt won the most recent match before the international break 3:1 at VfB Stuttgart.
Unusually strong away
In the Champions League, the first three points have already been won. After the bitter opening defeat against Sporting Lisbon (0:3), the reigning Europa League winners won their first away match in Marseille with 1:0. Eintracht has not yet lost in foreign stadiums this season – in contrast, there have already been three defeats at home (2x Bundesliga, 1x Champions League).
The spotlight is currently on Daichi Kamada, who is the second-best scorer in the Bundesliga behind Sheraldo Becker with four goals and two assists. In addition, the standard strength of the SGE should be emphasised. In the first seven matchdays, Frankfurt has scored the most standard goals of all teams. Oliver Glasner’s team has already scored six times following a resting ball. Against a very defensively strong side, standard situations will once again play an important role.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– 11 points from 7 games
– Last win 3:1 in Stuttgart
– Unbeaten away, already lost 3 games at home
Union Berlin form & balance check
The guests from the capital continue to float on cloud nine. The Eisernen are the only team in the Bundesliga still unbeaten after seven games. Apart from the two draws in Mainz (0-0) and against FC Bayern (1-1), Union have won every game, most recently 1-0 in Cologne and 2-0 against Wolfsburg. It is already 14 games without defeat – what an achievement!
Table leaders of a different kind
At the same time, the Berliners have followed a completely different path since their promotion to the Bundesliga than most of the other teams that are regularly represented in this region of the table. After seven matchdays, Union have the fewest dribbles, the second-fewest possessions, the second-worst passing rate, the second-fewest sprints and fourth-fewest shots on goal in the league. Urs Fischer’s team compensates for all this with extremely good organisation in defence, the highest willingness to run in the league, a strong switching game and brutal efficiency in front of the opponent’s goal.
With Sheraldo Becker and Jordan Siebatcheu, the Berliners have found the perfect forward duo for their style of play. Sheraldo Becker currently has six goals and three assists, making him the Bundesliga’s sole top scorer. In total, Union have scored eleven of their 15 goals through their strikers – by far the best figure in the Bundesliga!
Union Berlin facts & analysis
– 17 points from 7 games
– Last win 2:0 against Wolfsburg
– Only Bundesliga team still unbeaten
Predicted line-up – last update on 29 September 2022
The SGE will still have to do without Touré, Onguene and Buta after the international break. The starting eleven is largely set in stone, with only Knauff and Hasebe as alternatives.
For the Berliners, Baumgartl and Doekhi are further alternatives to Jaeckel in central defence. In the centre, as always, there is a three-way battle between Thorsby, Schäfer and Haraguchi. Instead of Trimmel, Gießelmann could also play at right wing. Only Möhwald is currently injured.
