Eintracht Frankfurt vs. VfL Bochum
After four home defeats in a row in the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt’s main aim in their upcoming clash with VfL Bochum is to prevent a new negative record of five home defeats in a row. The match will kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as part of the 26th matchday of the Bundesliga.
It is rather curious that the SGE did not suffer a single defeat in their own stadium in the entire past season and is now on the verge of setting a negative club record with five home defeats in a row this season. But since the turn of the year, things have simply not been going well for the Eagles. Five of eight Bundesliga games in 2022 have been lost, and the promoted team from Bochum has picked up an impressive five points more than Eintracht since the winter break.
Whether we see the VfL as having the advantage on Sunday and what other predictions we would make for this match, you can find out now in our Frankfurt vs. Bochum tip.

Frankfurt Form & Balance Check
As mentioned at the outset, Eintracht Frankfurt are in danger of setting a new negative record for consecutive home defeats in the Bundesliga with another loss against Bochum. However, a closer look reveals that the current accumulation of defeats is not only due to the Eagles’ inability to win, but also to some bad luck and lack of match luck. After previously winning three home games in a row, Frankfurt were leading 2-0 until the 71st minute against BVB on 8 January, but still lost the game 3-2 in the end. So the first of the four defeats could definitely have been avoided.
3rd must-win game or 5th home defeat in a row?
The 0:2 defeat against Bielefeld at home followed, in which the SGE simply never found their way into the game after conceding early goals (5th, 27th). Against Wolfsburg, the performance was by no means satisfactory, but the 0:2 defeat was nevertheless quite unfortunate in view of a penalty goal (28th) and the conceivably late decision (90th). In the most recent home match against FC Bayern, the Eagles put up a great fight against the record champions, but still lost narrowly in the end due to a late goal conceded in the 71st minute. However, with the 4:1 smashing win at Hertha BSC and the 2:1 away win at Betis Sevilla in the Europa League, the Adler have now created perfect conditions for themselves to avert their fifth home defeat in a row against Bochum.
Frankfurt facts & analysis
– 34 points from 25 games
– Last 4:1 win at Hertha BSC
– Lost last 4 home games (5 would be record)
– Won last 2 competitive matches
Bochum Form & Balance Check
The guests from Bochum can slowly but surely put the champagne bottles in the fridge for the non-relegation party. After the win against Greuther Fürth, VfL now have a proud 32 points on their account and with this haul after 25 match days, no club has ever been relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of the season. VfL are currently nine points clear of the relegation places, and with the team looking very solid, especially in recent weeks, staying in the league should be a mere formality.
Will VfL do it like in the first half of the season?
Of the last eight games, Thomas Reis’ team has only lost the home game against the league’s most in-form team RB Leipzig and the away game at the home-strong Mainz – both with 0:1. Apart from that, there was a draw against 1. FC Köln (2:2), three home wins against Wolfsburg (1:0), Bayern (4:2) and Fürth (2:1) as well as two draws at Hertha BSC (1:1) and VfB Stuttgart (1:1). In Frankfurt, Bochum now want to repeat exactly what they achieved in the first half of the season. The 2-0 home win against Frankfurt came immediately after the 1-0 away win in Fürth and marked the first time this season that they have scored three points twice in a row.
Bochum facts & analysis
– 32 points from 25 games
– Last win 2:1 against Fürth
– Lost only 1 of last 6 matches
– None of last 4 away games won
Predicted line-up – last update on 11 March 2022
There are really no question marks regarding the SGE’s line-up. Compared to the 1:4 in Berlin, we don’t expect any changes. Ansgar Knauff should be preferred on the right side again. Only Diant Ramaj and Ragner Ache are still missing due to injury.
On the VfL side, Christopher Antwi-Adjej could again start on the right wing. Otherwise, Takuma Asano could also return to the starting eleven. In the centre we expect Eduard Löwen, but Milos Pantovic could also play. Apart from that, there is actually no question mark behind any of the positions, as four players – Danilo Soares, Michael Esser, Maxim Leitsch and Luis Hartwig – are absent due to corona. In addition, Cristian Gamboa is missing due to a yellow card suspension.
Bruno Esser and Maxim Leitsch could return against Gladbach. With Danilo Soares we’ll have to wait and see. At least he now also has time to recover from his muscular problems. pic.twitter.com/kNZAEpeZCq
